Intake setting q's? Cyclone,CS19,Busby,etc

I was looking at my hull last weekend and noticed that the intake isnt set all the way back. I have about 2 -3 inches to go for a complete setback. i want to set the pump further back to clear the transom for my popoff valve. How far should the intake be setback? I know that rule of thumb is that the bitting edge is no further back than the transom. Can someone please verify this for me?

The reason I am leaning twards Cyclone,CS19 and Busby is because you guys know my boat. I am getting ready to throw 1400hp at that hull

Then I can roll down to the river and run with you crazy fockers

They would be the sane ones, their boats are designed for 1,200+ hp and a set back pump. I think I was told a long time ago that GW's don't like set back pumps

. I think that was the reason Slowburn took the time to do his pop-off valve the way he did. ( and he did a great job

)

oh yea do you plan on buying a low-profile intake or are you thinking of setting your standard intake back ?

I could be wrong, it wouldn't be the first time

My pump is setback. Just not all the way back. It can go back another few inches. Maybe 2.

Is the hand-hole approx 50/50 at the transom ?

My pump is all the way back so my blowoff clears the back. Boat runs better than before, with a couple other secrets.

If you want it to have a valve and dont want to scoop the transom out like Sleeper said you will need to set it way back which is sometimes not recommended, the boat tends to get weak when you set them back like that. I personally would do it the way Slowburn and others did it and not hang the intake out but thats just me.

Are you sure you want a pop off?? I personally dont see fast gullwings having shutdown issues like the tunnells. I wouldnt run one unless I was hauling ass in a gullwing.

How are you achieving 1400 HP? Thats alot of HP for any boat.

wouldnt the rear of the intake break through the transom if its set back far enough for the pop-off?

i guess you could machine the rear of the intake to gain some clearance but maybe that's not enough to keep the rear of the intake inside the boat.

I'm with CS on this one Mike ... that intake was set there for a reason.

You really don't need a pop off, Red Dragon didn't have one did it?

1400 hp in that hull (blown alky right?) might not be the best idea, but don't listen to me ... because I think it's a great idea

Even the WindWalker will have the new MPD intake set about 50/50, with no pop off.

I think I would leave it alone. Shoot it just had the bottom done

When i first bought my boat the pump was 50/50 on the inspection cover. Then i completly re rigged the boat with a new rail kit, pump brase ect. The intake will have to be machined for this install. I set mine back 2 1/2 in. more to clear the back.

Did you run your boat prior to setting the pump back?

Yes it would break through in order to get it that far out the back and with an angled transom its even more of an issue, pretty sure the CP's are angled if I remember correctly.

There are some machining tricks you can do to the intake to get it pretty far back without having to cut all the way through, but that will not get him anywhere near enough clearance for a pop off.
