Steering is a little tight on my end too.

I wont be able to tear into it until next week though.

Always check your "steer tube" for adjustment , the tendancy is to overtighten the bushing nuts and the steer tube must move ever so slightly back and forth to compensate for the swing of the tiller ,If the tube is too tight it will cause the steering to bind and be stiff, A good working rack should be "pinky finger operation" out of the water, Also having a swivel clevis (about 20 bucks)at the end of the rack shaft helps alot Tom

I have always lubed my cables. In fact I did that to my current boat, you couldn`t turn the wheel when I got it. The trick is more power. If you let gravity do the work there is not much chance of it working....however, if you get a piece of clear hose, clamp it on over the end, (after you loosened the inner guide, sorry I don`t have a cable nearby so no pics) then you fill the hose with some w-d40. Now for the important part.....put a quick disconnect on the other end of the hose and hook it to the aircompressor. After you force some wd40 through you can move to heavier trans fluid or whatever the oil of your choice is.

I tried this too. and it worked grate. After a few months the cable did start to get stiff again. I left the hose connected with WD 40 in side the tube for a weekend with the pressure set at 15lbs.

I saw replacement cables from 99 - 140 bucks. I would not even worry about lubing that sucker and just replace it. Not worth it getting stuck while on the water. Looks like tommy has a few sittin around just call him and get one shipped to you.. I cant imagine it would be difficult to replace.

Just change the cable . I had one break on me , thank god I was going slow. That could have been very bad
