just bought my first boat. its a miller mini cruiser. other than that, i dont know a damn thing about it. i dont even know how the hell to change the oil. do i have to pull the engine? so let me apologize ahead of the time for the stupid questions im going to ask. i just picked this up yesterday. i have some work ahead of me. but for $700.00, i figured it would be well worth it!

    Nice boat!
Yeah, you have a bit of work ahead of you, but $700 seems like a smokin' deal. Congrats.

Nice looking boat, you scored on that purchase. Your well ahead of the game over most people's first boat, you have a good powerplant (not an Olds) and a good pump (not a Jacuzzi or Panther). The "Search" bar near the top will be your friend.

what is a gel coat? my guess is it would be comparable to paint? almost like a powdercoat? the way the give a boat color? i know i know... "wow! hes an idiot!" right? sorry, i really just dont know anything when it comes to these! thats why i got onto this site.

but if a gel coat is basically the "paint"? how do i color sand and buff?
    thanks,
    Matt

edit: should have probably checked the search first. i'll do that now....lol

yeah, gelcoat is basically the paint just get some 1500grit wetsand paper and soapy water, sand the boat down with that and then buff it till the shine comes back, then you'll need to polish and seal it, use a good gelcoat wax/detailer from then on to maintain the shine. gelcoat is porous and will turn milky fast if you don't stay ontop of it.

Dare to be different, if it turns out great you can claim you planned it that way.
