    Default Impeller repair

How much straightening can you do on an aluminum impeller? I've got a spare that I need to use but it has some bending on the exit blades. Just wondering how crazy a guy can get with some heat and straighten them back out?

Malcom we dont recommend this on Alum alloys (welding or straightening) for a multitude of reasons , much prefer to "help" you on a new or solid used one than see a repair are we talking WJ? if so we got some new things for that pump that might interest you (protos this week ) Tom

Malcolm, I wouldn't be using heat to straighten out those blades. Aluminum impellers are heat treated and you will cause more harm than good in my opinion. I would also check the raidial diameter of the wear ring skirt. You should be in the neigborhood of 7.225. If you are down to 7.220 I would suggest an oversized ring. I also evaluate the vanes where they intersect with the hub, if they are thin and very worn inward I chuck them into the aluminum pile. Jim www.performancejet.com

This is in the new ride, Tom. I pulled it apart last night and found this...

I have this other pump I was thinking of swiping the impeller if it was fixable. Two of the blades are like new, then one has this...

Then just a little one on the 4th...

I think I'll just yank them both and head for Skagen's.

alum impellors are cheap, buy a new 1. you straighten that vein out and its just gonna snap off that much faster.

Dare to be different, if it turns out great you can claim you planned it that way.

Yeah, they always seem to bend easy one way, but not back.

Yeah, this rock is a monster! It's been in there since before I got it. I wondered why it was so slow. It's best speed was 48 at 5 grand.

Will a American Turbine impeller work in this pump? If so, I think I know where there is one with less than 10 hours on it that's available. The current owner is a REAL good guy (and damn good looking too).....

Here you go Malcolm. It's sitting here waiting for you and you can tell that it has less than 10 hours on it.

Now that I see how nice it is, I'm not gonna take a penny less than what we have agreed upon already!!!!

Tommy, got the DL too. Thanks a bunch and let me know what I owe you...

Just curious. Why are there no threads showing through your impeller nut?
