Default Tips on removing the jet...

Hello all! Labor Day of last year was the last time I took my boat out. Everything was great until I dropped my friend off to get the truck so we can get the boat out of the water. That area had a lot sand and rocks. Everything seemed normal until I decided to do another round before getting the boat out of the water. I gave it full throttle and all that happened was the engine revving and the boat going very slow. I'm pretty sure I sucked something into the jet, but when I looked through both holes on each end of the jet, everything looked normal. Didn't see anything stuck in it.

So now, I'm gonna take the jet apart to see something is deep inside the jet. Only problem is, I have to remove it out of the engine and I don't know how to do that. I'll take more current pics later today of the jet and the reason why I have to remove it from the engine. The stern is right in the middle of the hand hole cover!

Should I be aware of anything before I take this jet apart? How do I remove the old silicone? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Regards,

    John

before you go through all that trouble take the bowl off first...you are probably gonna find a nice size rock laying in the bottom of it

Just pull the bowl off and see if you have a rock stuck in the veins. Odds are its right there and you can inspect both the bowl and the impeller at the same time to make sure there is no damage.

Gotcha! Would there be any gaskets or o-rings of some sort that I'll need to replace if I take the bowl off?

The bowl has a gasket, but if your carefull you can reuse it. Bowl gaskets are cheap if you "F" it up....

It is possible to pull the transom cover with the bowl, eliminating one re-assembly headache and silicone job.

My bowl and cover both were siliconed only, no O-ring or transom gasket. I took a steak knife and ran it around the bowl inside the cover, then used a putty knife (carefully) to seperate the cover from the hull.

Now I am by no means a pro.

Even with a rock stuck in there you would get some froward motion. I see he has a droop on there. Could it be possible the pump just didn't load because of air? Maybe the pump is sucking air from somewhere. or it just didn't load

I also notice that the reverse bucket looks to be partially engaged.
Last year My Miller did the same thing, the cable had kinked at the lever, not allowing full forward engagement. I was "stuck in neutral', as it were.
It kinked due to a panic reverse at the ramp! Yeah, I yanked on it pretty hard!(And a slight misalignment at the lever)

    Worth checking.

I just happened to see this by looking real good into the outlet of the bowl...

    Good luck.
