    Default 460 EFI upgrade?

    hey y'all,
need some advice. got a 78 carlson cv23 jet. not a fast boat at all, ok with that, but now its not dependable. motor just blew last time i took it out.
what i thinking now is to try and put in a later model bbf efi from a pickup in it. how possible is this? would the exhaust logs bolt up (currently a 70s ish 460 in it). would motor mounts line up? if the exhaust manifolds and motor mounts line up. it appears i would have to pull motor from donar and get it running independant on test stand. it also appears it would be a dependable platform. if anybody out there has done this before or even it someone with a lot a knowledge could convince me it is not worth it, i would love to hear from you.
    thanks in advance

Lack of Efi has nothing to do with your motor blowin up. I would concentrate on spending the time and money to have your motor rebuilt with some upgrades to the oiling system.

Find the problem with the engine, EFI will not make an engine any more dependable than a carbed engine.

Other than a few obvious issues like what to do with oxygen sensors in a boat I believe the general concensus is that the Ford 460 EFi system is not capable of meeting the needs of a "semi healthy" jetboat motor, at least not easily. Anything can be done but its not going to be a "drop in" by any means. To get decent performance there would likely be a fair bit of tuning and fabrication involved.
if you are looking for a "cheap" EFI system, in stock form anyway the performance would be likely dissappointing

    Default 460 efi?

sounds like good advice, not what i was hoping for, but sound advice anyway. and for the record, i know my motor blowing had nothing to do with the carb. more likely was low oil pressure, low compression, and being just plain ol wore out. my objective with the efi was to make my boat more user friendly like modern day stuff. my biggest challenge in mind would have been the o2 sensor location. but for now i got to pull my motor for tear down. and seeing how a lot of you guys could do this in your sleep, i ask a simple question, cherry picker or A frame?
    with respect thanks

    I use a cherry picker. I don't have a winch/hoist on the a-frame in my yard.

Only major advice I have (avoiding the "switch to Chevy" shot (just too easy haha)) is put the new 460 together with a truck oil pan and oil pump setup. Rear sump is IMO the only way to fit up a jetboat engine. On a good hard take-off, the oil moves AWAY from the front sump pickup, is held in place much better in the back.

A tired engine will blow regardless of make at some point. EFI will be more headaches than you bargained for, not help you with "reliability". A straightforward rebuild with a few minor mods and a jet boat oil pan will give you years of reliable service. If it's "worn", then chances are you've already had years of reliable service from it. Why try to reinvent the wheel?
