Thats not where mine is at but i'd trust that pic for stock. I may have put mine in in the wrong place. like said earlier it dosn't mater where it is if the order and rotation is correct.

would it still bet he same even though mine only has two screws on the distributor cap, cause your diagram shows four.

Don't mean to be an ass but you could have pulled the plug and found # 1 by now!

the distributor in the picture depicts an HEI is the only difference. You can just pretend 2 of the screws aren't there for the stock point distributor.
It actually does not matter which contact on the cap you use as #1 providing the distributor is set in with the rotor coinciding with that particular contact and the #1 piston is at TDC.
    I hope that made sense.

    Default I remember that

I went through this deal not long ago, Just crank the motor over with a 1 1/8'' socket and breaker bar with thumb on spark plug hole. When air pushes past your thumb that is the compression stroke. you cant always trust the mark on the balancer. As soon as the air stops pushing you are at top dead center #1. The mark on the balancer should line up with the zero on timing indicatior. Now where the rotor is pointing on the dizzy is the #1 cylinder. when I figured it all out I made a modification to the diagram shown earlier to make it reflect my exact setup. My #1 is located at 1 o'clock looking from back of motor. I suggest you do this, print it out, put clear tape on it and keep it out in the shop or garage for future reference for when you f up and remove too many plug wires at once. Of course I am a self proclaimed numbskull so I keep stuff like this around.
