What is these exhaust thingies called?

Been a lurker for a while and just trying to learn as much as I can before I pull the trigger on a boat of my own. During some google searches i came across this v-drive with these exhaust thingies....what are they called? Do they just make a thru-transom exhaust quieter? Anyone use or have these?

I had a friend of mine who had similar to these installed on his wake boat. I believe he told me they were fresh air exhaust, which simply route the exhaust gases into the water. In theory they reduce skier's breathing of the exhaust gases, and offer sound reduction as well. On my friends boat at idle or no wake speeds, they did however make somewhat of an unpleasant burble.
