just got my first jet boat in the water today and possiby encountered some issues not sure what to think yet. First issue is the holshot was sluggish like a clutch slipping type feel, but rpm only whent to approx 4000.
Second; speed seemed ok (57ish on speedo) but rpm only run33-3400
Does this sound right? I dont know about the holeshot but I think the pump is way overstuffed at speed (shoe to deep)
setup is: 20 sleekcraft arisocrat tunnel jet, 460 ford 9.2/1comp, Berk JC
A-alum imp. setback pump with hyd jetovator(and yes its a jetovator not a place diverter) and a 5/8 X2 deg taperd shoe of unknown keel depth. no rideplate as of yet. rock grate , no loader
Just looking for some more experianced opionions? thanks; cw
Congratulations on your new ride ! ,your may have multiple problems (jet and engine) but just guessing at your HP by your engine description you provided and using the (4k rpm @ WOT you indicated ). Assuming your tach is correct your likley down on power to begin with ,could be something as simple as carb adjustment or timing , fuel pressure even altitude etc. Your BBF motor should turn an "A" impeller closer to 4600 to 5K WOT , the boat should "snap" up on plane with a 3k to 3700ish burst and throttle back to around 3k to cruise (depends on hull and alot of other things ) The Performance and RPMs tell most of the story and Jet "health" on these boats , Although the shoe depth concern you express is relavent as well as the ride plate (or lack of one) likely that they have little to do with what your currently experiencing at this point .
