Alright we all have been where you are right now and it sucks but you can do this. Check to make sure you have spark. Check to make sure you have fuel. Charge the battery overnight. Check that the distributor is lined up with #1 at TDC and go for it. Don't quit you can do it and everytime you try something new you learn something. Do it for the boys!

Might a stupid, "uh, yeah dude" question, but you were sure you were TDC on the compression stroke when doing all of this right? It's too hot to not be on the water! You'll get it!

That's a great thoought by power addict. Are you 180 out? that might be why the timing is off of the mark as well. Remember it is a 4 stroke motor. Intake is the first stroke down of the piston, compression is the second stroke or the up travel of the piston power is the third stroke or down again and exhaust is the fourth stroke upward as the piston pushes the gas out of the cylinder. If you are setting it for #1 between the exhaust and intake stroke tdc it may still run but the timing will be weird. To check to see if you are on the compression stroke by pulling the valve cover and looking at the number one cylinder rocker arms. Both should be fully down. If they are not rotate the engine until both are down and look at the timing mark on the dampner. Then do your piston stop tdc check as before and try again with your original mark. Betcha thats it!

Where should I set my idle at on trailer cause when I get to the lake it drops a little doesn't it. Seems to run pretty good at 8-900 rpm on trailer at 1200 it seems a bit 2 much what are you guys setting your idle at.

8-850 in the water, if it will.... trailer idle speed means nothing. all carb adjustments should be made on the water as well

Just got home from the lake and it ran great once we got it finally started no hydro locking successful day on the lake the boys enjoyed it, like I said only problem I had was getting it started in the water, I had to open the throttle about half way and crank and after about 20 cranks it would fire I think it needs more advanced timing, I had it set at 8 deg. I got good advise from several diff people from setting @ 6 and setting @ 10 deg so I picked the middle lol. I'm thinking I'm going to have to advance it a couple more deg. To get it running better/ starting. It was running only about 2900 rpm full throttle @ 43 mph.

Question ?? Am I ok just using a water seperator, or should I but a fuel filter in the lines before the water Sep. Also the guy that's been helping me with everything said the hard starting might also be from us tightening the Rockers to tight.

Despite the starting problem had a successful trip to the lake!!!! thanks for everyons help.

I have my 460 at 1200 on trailer and 1000 in water...usually drops 200 under load. I also only have a 3/8 npt sep as a filter(10 or 21 micron). Whats you time at 3000?
