    Default Mufflers

    I have read the posts about what mufflers work-but for you guys that have been to the meets, what set are the quietest for o.t. headers? Is it worth the money to buy the high-performance type from C.P. performance or are they just as loud as the Rex marine type?

    Running basically stock 460.

    the rex style have a baffle plate the cp doesnt as far as i have seen Tim (ramair69gto)has a set of Bassetts that have both the glass pack and baffle

    yea but i think they restricked his motor bad, he took them out and it ran a ton better...

    If you want a set of muffers that really work get a set of Gibson bullets. And run water to your headers. I have a set on my blown alky motor and they are quiet when the boat is running. I just put them on ebay. I have had just about every muffler under the sun & these work great. I no longer need them due to I have 2 boats now and my lake boat is super quiet.     You will lose some off the top no matter which one you go for its a matter of not ticking off everyone else ...and if you dont have to talk to cops its kinda nice too..

    Katanna,

    Like Shep said I bought a pair of Bassett Stage 1 mufflers which I do like as it knocked down the sound quite a bit. No matter what you will loose alittle top end again like Shep mentioned but I will take a loss of power over getting a ticket any day of the week.

    Would I recommend the Bassett Stage 1 mufflers... Absolutely as they look and sound good and are inserted inside your headers so you will still get the clean look of your Headers.

    The Hardin Marine Hi-Performance mufflers are designed for engines over 425HP (or below too) and will usually drop the noise level down about 8-10dB on most applications. Keep in mind that any muffler that works will drop RPM on some level, typically around 100-200 with this style. The straight through design makes it more effective without robbing more power from your engine.

    Wow the bassetts are out-not looking to remorgage the house. So its between the cp and the rex unless their are any other suggestions? Which would be quieter?
