There is a way to do it Im sure, but I know it wont be easy. This is a rich mans sport, guys buy thier show pieces and have no clue how to drive them, and you wouldnt want them on a race course. For example do you see Mr. Hendrick driving one of his Nascars? Hell NO, he hires guys that have the Talent such as Jimmie Johnson, who grew up in a Damn Trailer Park, so maybe you catch my drift and where Im going with this. Too many rich guys with egos out east would just get thier feelings hurt and have that take my ball and go somewhere else mentality. Well guess what them guys need to grow up, this isnt kindergarden in the Damn sandbox. The racing organzations have screwed up, and lets face it those rich guys I dont think have the same passion for the sport that the old school guys once did. Its all a shame.
It would be a start if we could find some nice venues out west, I know there are some, and thats where I live so I wish it could get back going again. I think it ould be cool if some West coast builders go into it a little, It just needs to make sense for them and thats the tricky part Im sure trying to figure that out. Would like to see the likes of: DCB, Nordic, and a couple others get involved more.
I wish you the best of luck, and Im praying for you guys, I love the sport and would love to see it done right one day, and back to where it once was.
I am very well aware of the history of POPRA and that is precisely why I am out "pounding the pavement" trying to drum up interest because 8 - 10 boats is not a race. There seems to be some growing interest (again) in the "P" Classes (kind of run what you brung) and I support that. Another board member went to the SCOPE kickoff get together and it looks like we might get some support from that end as well. My goal is to bring POPRA back to being one of the biggest and best in the APBA/U.S. I have a 5 year plan with goals and so far, and it's early we are making some inroads.

I seriously wish you the best of luck with this one Ross. Unfortunately, OS racing really died off on the West Coast in the early 2000s. There used to be 8 POPBRA races per year with around 40 boats total at each race. Nowadays, it's down to I believe only 2 races per year (Havasu and San Diego) and they only get about 8 boats total at each race. Not to mention that the only 2 races left aren't even close to being true OS races. Everybody I know that used to race out here still has OS boats, but they just don't race any more (Rick Bowling, Rod Karnofel, Larry Kramer, Rob Storelee, Karl Koster, Gary Colledge, Rique Ford, etc.). I'll give it to Craig Ferguson for holding on to the very end though...... he still brings Renegade out every chance he gets!

LAKE HAVASU CITY, APRIL 7-11, 2011
LAKE HAVASU CITY, Ariz. (Nov. 5, 2010) – Offshore Powerboat Racing & a 300 Mile Endurance race is returning to Lake Havasu for the 5th Annual Havasu Grand Prix and innaugural Havasu 300 Enduro on April 7 – 10, 2011.
The race will be held in conjunction with the Lake Havasu City Marine Association's 20th annual Performance Boat Show. Over 10,000 racers and spectators are expected to visit the Race Village located at Windsor State Park.
The Offshore Powerboat Race will be sanctioned by the American Powerboat Association (APBA) and includes participation by the Pacific Offshore Powerboat Racing Association (POPRA). Offshore race boats will compete from all over the U.S., ranging from 22 feet to over 50 feet; POPRA boats speed upwards of 150 MPH in some of the Pro classes.
Lake Havasu City provides a wealth of family fun with great hotels, wonderful restaurants, and the world famous London Bridge. The rugged Arizona landscape with the beautiful lake provides a unique Wild West destination for racers and race fans alike.
Racing action starts Friday, Apr. 8, with Offshore qualifying sprint races throughout the day.
Saturday's Main Event, "The Lake Havasu Grand Prix" will test the endurance of the race boats running at speeds upwards of 150 MPH for 80 miles.
Saturday night is a Texas Hold'em tournament and all are welcome! Sign ups will be in the pits on Friday/Saturday.
Offshore Powerboat Racing Returns to Lake Havasu 2 fundraiser for the “Carry a Designated Operator” initiative to promote sober boating. The event will be held at the London Bridge Resort Convention Center, host resort for the entire event.
On Sunday, the event shifts gears with the ultimate test of attrition: the innaugural Havasu Enduro 300 where sixteen to twenty-five foot boats race around the six mile course off Windsor Beach. 7 Divisions will compete for the overall win and individual division win. The race will be 50 laps on an approximately 6 mile course,
The Race requires all boats entering the contest to be a minimum length of 16 feet up to a maximum of 25 feet with any motor configuration (inboard, outboard, IO, Jet). Based on the boat and motor configuration the team will designate a racing division (1 thru 7) per the official rules that govern the race Official Rules . Absolutely NO capsule boats (tunnels or otherwise) will be allowed. The start will be staggered Le Mans with the slowest class of the racing divisions taking off Le Mans style first and then each division starting at their prescribed time thereafter. Safety is of the utmost priority and there are strict rules regarding passing and overtaking boats. Fuel stops consist of a minimum of two (2) – ten (10) minute stops on the trailer in the teams pit designation so, like in NASCAR, fuel stops will play an important role.
Come and join in or watch this prestigious event and see with the many other racers, boat manufacturers and aftermarket manufacturers that have already signed up to race for bragging rights and their share of the prize money.

The race will start at approximately 10:00 a.m. on Sunday morning.
On-site registration, safety inspection and racer check in, Friday, April 8th from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and Saturday April 9th from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. in the Windsor pit area.
