    Default Any of you Old Guys Remember Mt. Umunhum?

    The Mt. Umunhum Radar Tower in the Santa Cruz Mountains used to be the NORCAL West Coasts only radar defense base during the cold war era. It has always been visible from the south bay valley below. We used to go riding dirt bikes up there and be chased off by Air Force armed guards, but we knew they wouldnt shoot us stupid kids for 'trespassing'...

    Well now its up for DEMOLITION... This is an icon of a time (before space satellites) that proved to be a good method of defense, and kept our country safe from invaders. It should be a museum of the forces that protected our lands for all those years.

    Haven't thought about that place for years. We rode up there and got chased away too lol ..... used to fly over on our way to do our regular checks of the Red White and Blue beach .....

    Growing up in Los Gatos we used to go to the Loma Tower off Summit RD. and ride dirt bikes down to the back side of Calero ...
    yea we might have done a littel trespassing ..but know one was going to catch a 130lb. kid on a CZ 400...
