Default Sheriffs boats on Clear lake

Yesterday the had the lower end of the lake cordoned off with buoys and about 10 sheriffs boats waiting behind the buoys.
    What was up?
Were they checking for BUI and inspection stickers?
If they were, they were using a great deal of manpower on a slow weekend.
Doesn't make too much sense for revenue.

It sure seems a lot of money spent for minimum results. I read in the Record Bee that they were having the check. Most likely they have to spend the money or lose it.

maybe if more lakes/deltas/riverways did this there would be less deaths and accidents. maybe alittle spent manpower is worth saving a life or two

mandatory written and skills test for boat and pwd liscence. make the test cheap but thourough. use bouys for a course and have the liscence set up with endorsements. boat , jet ski, etc. but atleast you have to have the rules of the water knowledge. instead of your only smart enough to pull out the credit card and turn a key. (that is for all the punks on their daddy's roll bar boat) sorry for that rant, bad experience on folsom 5 yrs ago when a boat almost hit my 7 yr old daughter while trying to teach her to kneeboard. he drove between me and another boat full speed. i had the flag high in the air, and he just pointed at the other boat like it was their fault that he was so close to me.

    Exactly my point.

I totally understand the need to check for DUI/BUI, but it just seems a waste of resources in how they had it set up.

I have had my home on Clear Lake for 20 years now, and the lake has never been crowded with a scene like Havasu or any of the traffic as there is in the Delta. For boats to collide on the lake it almost has to be pure dumb luck/misfortune and I know what happenend a few years ago with the sailboat.

They would have a bit more success if they hovered around Richmond Park (or Konocti when it was open) or actually went out at night, which seems to be when most of the boating/drinking related accidents happen on Clear Lake.
