I don't know where on the lake cicago is, But I did that very same thing on Franks tract (cal Delta) took me an hour to paddle/drag it to near the Sugar Barge where I could pull the weeds out of the intake & be on my merry way, never to return to Franks tract. Still love the delta though. by the way bass boat & I/O boats didn't seem to have any problems mowing though where I got stuck.

im pretty sure all that algea can most likely be the result of some asshat dumping thier aquriium into a storm drain or off a dock somewhere. the lake used to be naturally clear. not in cycles how some are trying to claim but always clear. until about 90. after that it just started to spread like aids. stanky and dead. with people just wanting to avoid it.

Oh yes, never go through Frank's Tract in a jet boat! Aren't you glad I mentioned that to you now?

I beg to differ. I used to go to Clearlake for 2 weeks every summer from about 1967 to 1971 and it was always green when we were there. I even remember diving off a dock wearing white swim shorts that were green when I got out.
Even back then they were talking about diverting the Eel River into the lake to keep it clear. The reason for the algae is the high air temps and the shallow water without any water movement.
That's not to say the there aren't dickwads out there that have dumped their aquariums in it. I know that has been a major issue in many areas on the Delta.

my dad started the cl vacation in 45. i was born in 75 we still did the 2wk thing till we bought indian beach resort in 87. as a kid i dont recall that type of algea till i was in middle school. there was surface algea but not the stringy stuff or the clumps. and they tried to blame on the low lake level but this yr water in higher than normal but algea just as bad. maybe in lucern lakeport shallow...aveage 16-20 ft deep but the rest of the lake is 20-50 with alot of natural springs that airate the water. and the constant waves and chop should break up normal slime. just talk to the old timers in CLO. im pretty sure when they bought their keys property, that they werent walking accross the shit to visit the neighbors that started back in the early 90's

I'll go with you on the stringy stuff, I don't remember that either but I do remember clumps of yuck. The place we used to go was between Pirates Cove and Honeymoon Cove. I'll also agree that walking on the water back then wasn't an option

If someone is going to enjoy Clear Lake, it has to be done earlier in the year when the lake is high and the water temps are lower. The algae and weeds start in the begining of July. The weed issue started in the early 1990s. There are around 5 varieties of invasive weeds growing in the lake now. How they got here? I am guessing the giant bass tournaments. Bass boats from all over the United States come to Clear Lake during the spring with ESPN in tow. I have seen them launch boats with old weeds on their trailers before. Some say the birds brought them in. The county has been talking about buying aquantic harvesters. Lots of talk and no money.

Yeah... Go figure. Must be those large filters on cash creek. jkjk. Makes good white water adventures. One of Yolo Counties Supervisors owns a white water outfit and big profit for Yolos Ag. Check out the Yolo bypass over I-5 by Sacramento

    Default Good old Clear Lake

I have been boating on the lake since the 60's, she sure varies year to year. I would have thought the lake would have lasted a little longer with all the later rain we had. The weeds can keep you busy trying to avoid them. I have some tennis balls I throw out and cruise around to pick them up. Avoiding the weed clumps and getting the balls is quit a challenge.

But....she is what she is. Weeds and all.

Hey Norcal hows the Sanger coming along? I think the lake will settle down when the weeds die off and a couple of good passes will be in order!

I got the thing fired up yesterday for the first time. Once it ran, I was hella stoked. Summit box is not beeing friendly on initial fire up. Need an MSD. Gotta save money up.
