How is boating/picnic/BBQ and facilities at San Luis Reservoir? This is that pond south of Pacheco Pass on 152.

    Thanks!

The last I knew you could not boat on the main lake. Only small o/bs allowed certain days of the week. The Mendota Slough guys would know more about that. That is their turf.

Windy there most of the time; tables, chairs, tents, silverware and flatware all has to be tied down to keep from blowing away at all times. Sailboating would be great there but are not allowed.... Windsurfing would be great, also not allowed.

Doesnt make much sense does it?

Try Lake San Antonio to the west of there or Modesto Reservoir to the northeast

The upper main lake, San Luis Dam is tough on boats, Very windy at times. Great Stripped Bass fishing there. http://www.danblanton.com/SanLuisstripers.html
The lower lake, the Los Banos O'Neill Forebay is better. Although the wind does come up later in the afternoon. Good sandy beach areas with shade and BBQ's and clean restrooms right next to the beach. Wind surfing is allowed on the Forebay. Great wind. Surf next to highway 152. Used a Hobie Cat on the Forebay also. Grew up in Los Banos and parent and family live there. Had the Flat on the Forebay, and yes it gets windy. Got a Blue lite escort off the lake from the rangers with the flattie.
