The 1988 Merc 2.4L Blackmax is dead. I gave a lot of thought to rebuilding or replacing the 2.4; but have decided upon a defferent PH instead. NEW PH is on the truck, coming from Alabaster, AL -- hope to see it tomorrow...
This will require some minor modification(s) because I am going from a Carb-set-up to EFI & need to run return lines back to the tanks. I will also need to find a MERC 225-PRO-MAX (1-PC) plate & a different Tuner to go in the mid-section. This PH does not run with any Therm's or Poppets, it has washers in place of.
I am retaining the 4-Hole CLE foot & Off-Shore-Mid; although will need to play with some wheels... The old PH was running with a 22P 3-blade Chopper -- I am betting I'll have to step up to a 24P; to start from...
I will also be posting photo's & video in this thread, as the swap takes place -- through to the initial water test (@ Okmulgee-Lake).
I am all for any suggestions or words of advise from any of you out there in regards to the PH SWAP!!! Please share if you have time!!!
See link below --> this is the exact PH that is taking place of the 2.4L --> Aprox-33-hours total run-time since rebuild in article. Maxed Out Mercury
I would have liked to have built something myself; although I have never been into the guts of a 2-stroke -- only S/B Chevy's & Ford's. I also wanted to get back on the water ASAP, as we had been running through most of last winter & I'm "JONES'IN" for the RUSH!!!!!!!!
I kinda feel like one of those kids w/ the little "rice-burner" cars & horrible tail-pipe's.
At least it's a MERC though!!!
I was actually looking @ an open-bow Rochelle Jet-Boat w/ an Old's 455ci when I talked this boat down on price. Couldn't turn it down @ that point!!! Momma said it had to seat the family... Seats 7 comfortably!!! She didnt know what to think (& You should have seen the look on her face) when I pulled in the driv-way with an "EGG-BEATER" on a Tunnel-Boat!!!
