Default Dual Battieries and side to side wieght?

Okay so this boat is new to me....1979 Taylor 21" Stiletto Mod VP hull. Cleaning the boat out I find a second battery holder, cables and all on the left side but no battery.

So should I pick up another battery?

Thanks for any input to my silly question.

I never run dual batteries in my single engine outboard setups because of the additional 45 pounds that is not necessary. Unless you are going to run a very large stereo system for extended periods without the engine running, stick with one battery to conserve weight.

    Comment:

I know some guys were running two batteries because all to often they ended up draining the primary battery due to electrical issues and relied on second battery to fire it up and get home.

Generally speaking I would agree with Dale having an extra 45lbs constantly is unnecessary.

The reason both batteries are on the left side is for cornering and making minumum weight by adding a second battery. Most races are counter clockwise so weight on the inside corner is better

COR racing has rules on placement from the transom

If you are running a big sound system for long periods a second batt is a good idea

But, if you can run your boat light it will go faster

Thanks for the advise and I will forgo the additional battery. The boat has a stereo but not a big one and marine band CB and I can't imagine partying like a rock star at my age.
