    Default Glastron CVX16 - Evinrude ETEC 130, Project/Video

Thought I'd introduce myself by sharing my project. 2 years ago I bought a 79 Glastron w/79 Evinrude 115. Engine turned out to be bad so I rebuilt the powerhead and then sold it. Early July I took delivery on a used 2010 ETEC 130. Took several weekends to setup due to working out of town. Installed all new gauges, new harness, new oil tank, and new control box. Here's a video of the 1st outing. Absolutely love the motor. Had an issue with the oil delivery...turned out to be air in the oil line. Still have some prop tuning to do. With the latest prop I've seen 56 mph on the new speedo...will verify this weekend with a GPS.

There is a guy on the board with a hull like yours but he installed a 260hp merc, he said it would get quite wild.

    Default Over-powered Glastron CVX16

260 hp on this hull will be dangerous and I don't recommend it. And if you insist on using motors beyond 150 hp move up to the CVX-20 hull.

I'm shooting for 60 mph with my setup and I know it's going to take a special prop to achieve that number. However, the hull design is also nearing it's limit before it starts getting unstable at around 62 mph. The hull to put that motor on would be the CVX20. I actually considered putting an ETEC 150 on and still yearn for the power but I now believe I made the right choice for the hull design and I'm pretty satisfied. It'll also do better on the gas consumption.

gfinch - I haven't measured my fuel consumption yet but from what I can tell it's fantastic so far especially at cruise rpm's between 3,000-3,800 rpm.

    Nice ride

You have a great little boat

goes as fast as most jet boats w/ 400 hp

And get 5 times the mileage or more

    Default ETEC 130 Numbers Update

Thanks Steve. The boat is a lot of fun and performs well. I know it's not the boat for many performance nuts but if you like light-weight (650 lbs) and moderate speeds it's not a bad choice.

Took the boat out yesterday with the GPS and picked up some new numbers. Unfortunately they went in the wrong direction. As it turns out my new Speedometer reads 2 mph to the highside throughout the entire range.

    OMC ss 13 x 23 w/GPS

    600 rpm = 3 mph
    3,000 rpm = 26 mph
    3,500 rpm = 31 mph
5,600 rpm = 54 mph (53.8 mph to be exact)

Sweet. And I love the Etec!

Don't worry about the CVX16 with the 260. It was completely gutted and redone including bottom work. If I remember right, he has run it into the mid 90's.

    Default Mega-Powered Glastrons

I've heard of guys doing that with their CVX16's. Apparently the hull goes through several phases of chine-walking while transitioning up the speed-ladder, and if you know what you're doing you can survive. It's not for me and I don't recommend it for the average weekend warrior which is probably the way I should've stated it previously. I wouldn't have a problem going to a 150/175 ETEC to hit that 60 mph randge but wouldn't want to go beyond that speed. To be honest with you when you factor in the 54 mph speed and economy of my 130, it's really not a bad choice and certainly is a lot of bang for the buck. Most of my cruising is in the 25 mph to 40 mph range so the 130 fits me well. And if I keep talking this way I'll have totally convinced myself that I made the right choice...150 ETEC keeps nagging at me. I'm sure I'll get over it.

Really that 130 is going to be a great setup.

...I hope I get over it is what I should've said. Anyone interested in a 130? Just kidding.

Now I've really done it!! This past weekend I picked up a used 2011 Evinrude Etec 150HO. So much for being happy with the Etec 130. I think I need a timeout.
