pops out of gear

hi everyone i have an 88 omc cobra and it goes in to foward a little hard and when i do get it in it keeps popping out,reverse is fine any ides would be greatly appreciated

you can try an adjustment what you give to forward you will take away from reverse but you will probably need a new clutch dog maybe forward gear I can't remember if you can get the gears separate

Make sure that your boat still doesnt have the original black ribbed shift cable to the drive make sure it is a salmon colored cable. You will need to put a gear set in the lower unit it will include the clutch dog with more back cut into to hold the clutch into the gear better. There was a recall on these back in the late 80's early 90's that is no longer in affect.
