Default Twin I/O's or twin Outboards

    Ok heres the question..

If you were getting a new boat built today. With this market and this economy with gas prices and all. Would you go with twin 496 ho's or go with twin 300 xs outboards?

To me its kind of a toss up. Being that all my old boats were twin outboards, but now that I have an I/O. I kind of like not looking back and seeing some wackers hanging off the back. But I still miss the sound and the feel of driving twin outboards.

So what would you guys do if you were getting a new boat.

    twin 496 ho's or twin 300 xs. on a 29 foot cat.

Clip-ons. Hard to beat the performance compared to price.

is there a none of the above.....

if not then i decline to answer ... seriously.... I hate mercury with a passion.... but thats me

BUT If I was someone else I would look at the 300x's though.... the 496 is a worthless pile of shiat...

Now if you said HP525 vs. 300X then take the HP525.

Well dave, the reason I said 496 ho's is cause they are the closest thing in cost to the 300 xs motors. each 300xs motors cost about 16,000.00 and the 496 ho's cost about 20 k each. And when you buy a 6 -7 k billet set back bracket for the outboard motors. It kind of evens everything out.

Oviously I would say 525's but there no where near the price of the 300xs. So its really not a contest between the two.

Twin I/O's fo sho. They simply sound soooo much better at cruise speed. But then again I'm a bit partial.

    Default Talk to Bullhead Bully....

He owns both of those combos....

    I have driven both ...108 w/ 496 ho's (28' Daytona) (2 mpg crusing at 65-70)
    117 MPH w/ 300xs ....(on 22' Daytona) 3 mpg at 90 mph

Get his opinion ...it has merit.

I hear ya... if ya wanna do that comparison then the whackas look like a good deal all things considered.... even after you blow them up a couple of times you are still ahead... LOL....

some cats react better to less weight and the 300's have the weight reduction.

sorry didn't mean to sound rude I just don't like Mercury at all. 300xs, 525, 496... they can keep em all of them....

Personally I would come up with the extra scratch and get the 525's. but since some of us don't have any extra scratch I guess we have to make do
