Hey T44:
Haven't talked to you in quite some time. Yes! I already checked out the site but no return phone call or e-mail message from the owner---he might be out of town is what I can only assume.
It is an exciting product but the follow-up ie... replies to customers and product availability--- PRICE, and some general Q & A to owner from interested buyers is non-existent.
So here we are 9 months after the Los Angeles boat show debut and still nothing--- my guess is if the CP Performance guys cannot get any answers. Then the average performance boater/consumer such as myself is going to get zilch for a response---guess having cash in hand is not as good as it once was.

Kap, over on OSO, some guys in the know, stated pricing will be about 30k. Which is about 1/2 of a #6 drive setup. They are also working on a billet gimble to increase durability over a Merc unit. All in all, very good pricing for a drive rated at 1500hp.

Yeah I agree that it has taken a long time to get to this point. If/when this ever gets going and we start getting some reviews and feedback on this from people who have actually bought one, it should be a pretty awesome set up. $30K is still pretty steep for this setup. I think if they could sell the drive and gimble for $20-25 they'd sell a ton of them. Still a pretty cool product.
Darrell:
IMO 30k is outrageous for a Bravo setup. Why! well if a guy has a FMV boat of about 100k it seems foolish to spend a third of the value of the boat on just a drive. On the flip side logic and common sense do not always mix with performance boating. FYI---On OSO you could get a pair of rebuilt No 6's for 30K. You could also run an Arneson drive which is bullet proof for that kind of money and if your pushing that much HP and torque.
Plus, not every boat can run a No.6 drive--- our deckboat has our kids playing off the back---with cleaver props on the back--- watch out someone is going to get cut and bad.
Hell! your Advantage has only one place to swim off and that is the transom you really want your wife or you jumping off the boat with set of cleaver props not to mention trying to get back in the boat. Perhaps you forgot about how much you enjoy swimming off the back in Clear Lake.
T44---Big Cliff:
I agree with both comments and agree 20K is still high but more realistic than 30k. I could have a stable of drives in the garage for 30K--- at least two performance drives MMX900, BAM or IMCO's for that cost.
Hopefully, the price quoted on OSO is not correct. After all this drive has a long way to go in proving itself---plus only boaters with a whole lotta cash are going to pay such a premium [30k] for an unproven drive.
Just my thoughts--- hopefully, the ordinary performance boater will be able to afford this unit if it is the real deal.
KAP
The only problem with the Arnesons is to do the Bravo conversion even with the ASD-7M drive, its still only rated for 850 ft-lbs of torque. Now I'm sure that is way underrated just like everything else in the marine industry, but still probably too weak for people with 1000hp. There are a handful of boats running a single #6 drive, which would be the best option if you have the engine compartment room for the trans. Hopefully the XPower will solve a lot of these issues, but only time will tell.
I don't think the drive will be a substitute for a #6, and not really sure if that is its target market. My guess is that it will be billed as the next level of performance above and beyond what is available today with the aftermarket Bravo style drives. It's advantage on smaller boats is the fact it is smaller, weighs less, and does not need a transmission, which a lot of smaller boats do not have room for. 30k is a lot of money, but if they are able to hold 1500hp, (as claimed) there are not a lot of options available.

Yes I rate the #7M at 850 lbs of torque, and I warranty it at that level also. NO B.S. One has to draw a line in the sand somewhere.
As for 1,000 hp applications. These are not a problem as I have many large (38' Cigarettes, 38' Scarrabs) with 1,100 hp blower motors with no failures.
Small boats put a lot less strain on everything than the larger boats do, so even more power is not going to be a problem for the applications you are referring to.
I got a test bed for a pair of those drives. I would be curious as to how they would hold up. I would even step up the motors just to see. ?????
High Power Marine Drives & Service
Just got an email from XPower. Thought you guys would like to see it. Straight from the owner:
I guess if you can find someone that already has one then you can borrow it, but other than that, I guess you gotta buy one. Thanks for your interest in the X Power Drive. The drives are $35,000 each, and bolt directly up to a bravo gimble. They currently come in 1.36 gear ratios because with the cleaver prop we have a giant range to choose from. They also are a surface drive like the six, and will also use a six prop. We have run in excess of 1550 hp and have never failed one yet, and we routinely put over 375 hours on each drive in testing. They will be available in just under 6 weeks.
We do have some in the field for people to use, and for general testing. If you have any other questions please feel free to call.
T-44:
I got virtually the same E-Mail today except yours contained the gear ratio available for the drive.
KAP
At $35K plus the cost of a good cleaver, that is going to be a VERY niche market for them. It is a very cool drive and I am sure it's very strong. I wish them lot's of luck with it.
