Hey John got a question then I remember one time I was at Tom Papps place in Corona and he was working on a lightning boat I think a 21 footer or so and the trailer said Lightning boats by Ultra Boats, was there ever an affiliation with Ultra? I was just wondering I think Bob Brown told me at the time they were just curious.

JW started building Lightning boats as a entry level NO BLING boat but it started to take too much time away from building Ultras that he sold off the molds to Lightning. I am sure JW may come in and give more info, but that is the basics of it.

The 25s are based off of the Orion. I do know they do or did make a 25 with two canopies. I am not sure what the 27 is based off of.

We were extremely happy with our Lightning 23XS. It was a good deal, and ran really well with only a 6.2Merc (about 63 on GPS). It had one of the best gel coats I have ever seen on any boat at any cost and most people who saw it agreed.

Honestly, I couldn't tell you how they are now. I thought they may be out of business. I have not seen or heard one thing about them in over a yr.

I can tell you right now that boat WAS NOT laid up by Ultra. I would say that is the Orion 27 cat which I have driven before which Lightning is now building. As for Fusion, I have no clue who they are.

I just called the seller and the boat is sold. He stated he waas told it was laid up by Ultra Boats. The boat was laid up by Martin Casillas who was running Orion at the time it was laid up in late 05 early 06.

I started Lightning as a cheaper model of the Ultra. They were built a lot like an Ultra without all the bells and whistles. We had an Ultra dealer in San Fernando that was selling mostly Lightnings, so I sold him the company which included several V bottom molds. He has not been a dealer for Ultra in years.

That is not an Ultra and was not built by Ultra.

I recieved this in an e-mail this morning from a Perfromanceboats.com board member. If they aren't claiming to be affiliated with us then why do they have our logo on their building? This sign was made AFTER they were no longer a dealer for us, so what was the reasoning behind that other then to get sales off of our name. Looks like I have some phone calls to make today.

You're right Billy. I'm sure when I talk to Jason he'll agree to remove our logo form the sign. Jason and I have always got along OK.
