Default Automotive paint over ployester gel?

I sprayed and cut and polished the bottom of my brothers super sanger with black polyester gel. For the top I plan on using the gel as a primer. I'm going to sand to 400 grit them spray base clear colours on the top side. Does anyone know if automotive clear will adhere to gel sanded with 400 grit? Will I have to put sealer and base on before I clear. I plan on doing some candy paint around the edge. I bought a new 3.0 tip for my sata for the top I might as well used a rocker guard gun lol. Got some pretty good orange peal to sand out.

At $100/ hp plus injection oil it's just to expensive to go that slow!

I had an Eliminator that a previous owner sprayed clear coat over the gel on the deck to cover up the dull finish on the deck. It may have looked like new when it was first done but when I sold the boat it was starting to fade and peel off.
