Default Not your average dash question

On my southwind, I am wanting to extend the steering column to get my legs out from under the dash. If I just use an extended column the steering wheel will be way up high and funky. The boat is already stripped and I'm already doing glass work. Has anyone ever glassed a "bump" on the dash to change the angle of the dash on just the steering column area? What I'm thinking is to do multiple layers of glass to essentially make a wedge shape flat spot for the column. Would it be strong enough?

instead of adding an angle on the dash with glass, usually you machine the different angle on the steering column
