    Default transom span??

in research ive found that there seems to be two ways of installing a replacement transom wood pannel. one way is to have it form fit the keel, stringers, sides and the top of the transom. the second way is to have it tight on the bottom and stringers, but at the sides and top it is feathered back and is actually an inch or so away from the sides and the top. mine was set up in the latter, and was easy to remove with plenty of room to get the saw in there. question is, what is the prefered method in strength and longevity?

I think it was mfg to mfg ways of doing it and the type of drive. my spectra is a jet and has no wood. the v drive sanger is tight and beveled edges. my last I/O was tight all the way around. I would not re invent the wheel and put it how it was , however if you bevel the edge its easier to get the glass to lay down my .02

sangerfan 76 , all very good points , and to tell you the truth you are starting to sound like me . $uperJoe ,personally i would not bevel the edge considering you have already mentioned in a previous thread / post that you were planning on pre-making the ( transom board ) on the bench , and with that in mind a fillet should just about take care of everything which will fill all voids ,and gap's giving you a nice cove shaped radius allowing your fabric something to roll into when tabbing the perimiter of the transom to the hull . Just a suggestion .
