    Default Painting Chrome

Looking to paint some old chrome rims I have flat black. I was hoping to rattle can them. Any recommendations on surface prep or brand of paint? Thanks

I painted my chime headers with vht primer and paint. Looked great until I ran the engine. Paint and primer peeled off in large chunks. What a mess!
Ended up roughing up the chrome with Emory cloth, re painted and it's been 5yrs now. No problems.

Rough em up with some 4-600 grit, primer, then spray em. Won't stick well unless you rough it up first and primer.

Scotch brite or Emory cloth like flat foot'n said will work too. Just gotta rub a little more with scotch brite.

For paint, rustoleum has always worked good for me.

Plasti dip them. Surface prep is always the most important step so don't cut corners but the benefit to plasti dip is if you don't like it or screw up you can peel it off and do over. It's what a lot of people use these days for this type of application

In my defense. I'm leaving the outer chrome ring. Flat black in the center.

X2 on Plastidip! They have flat black. No sanding! Just wash, dry and spray. I got five 17" wheels done with 4 cans. And I wasn't being cheap. That was three or four coats. One light misted type coat first, then, after waiting whatever time it says on the can for a recoat window, respray with medium-wet coats. That spent about two years on my Jeep with vigorous washings. That stuff is very tough! No need to sand (even chrome). It's pretty dang slick and can't beat it for $20!!!

sorry for the bad pictures... They are the only ones that I could find on my phone
