    Default Vdrive to jet conversion

I have a 78 18' charger vdrive that I'm swapping for a berkley set back pump. What's the best way to patch the hole where the vdrive shaft went through the hull? I have some experience with jet boats and fiberglass but haven't done much structural and it only want to fix it once.

Nope probably not. I'm partial to jets though and I've heard of people doing it. I got the boat for $200. A guy bought it for the cassel. It's got 2/6 full length stringers. Seems like a solid hull

    Default Lot of work

You will need to resection center floor from rear forward replacing the wood sub as 1 piece to have the strength to support the glass you will have to replace then true bottom. And then cut out for jet stuff you better off looking for jet hull Just saying. Wild Bill. Contact Tom at Jet boat Performance he has knowledge on you project

Thanks Roger. Doesn't seem like it's too tough and I'm setting the pump back so using a jet hull means I'd have an even bigger hole to patch.

Sorry but I couldn't resist I assume you will be rolling the boat over. Before you do Clean and grind the area taking it down at least 1/4 inch at the edge of the holes and taper out at least 3 times the hole size around the repair area. Lay up between 3 and 6 oz of mat let it cure. Then roll the boat over and grind the the repair area at a taper until you reach the patch on the inside. Now lay up 2 to 3 layers at a time smaller to larger pieces till the repair is level. On last coat add wax to the resin block sand primer and paint. When you roll the boat over grind and block your repair and finish. You will want to tape over the holes on the bottom before doing the inside lay up to keep resin from dripping all over the bottom and floor. Hope this helps if you have any question I would be glad to help I will pm you my number.

Thanks for the response. Yes I'll be flipping the boat over to blueprint the hull. The bottom of the hull is in decent shape but there are several holes where v drive hardware went through so there's quite a bit of work to do. Not to mention intake install, paint and speed coat. I'll give you a call
