    Default Duratec Vinylester Primer 1799-006

I'm getting ready to paint the bottom of my Sanger Bubble Deck. The boat was soda blasted by the previous owner. I have seen several recommendations from Offshore Ginger on this forum for Duratec 714-002 (white) and 707-082 (gray) polyester hi-build primer. When I called Hawkeye Industries to order some they insisted that I use 1799-006 Vinylester primer for the bottom (below water line) of the boat. My question: is this necessary if I'm not going to be leaving the boat in the water for long periods of time? Can regular single stage urethane like PPG Concept be applied directly to and adhere to the vinylester primer or will I need to put a coat of some else on the vinyl ester before applying the PPG?

I plan on using PPG base coat clear coat on the sides and top of the boat, will the vinylester work with the this?

Should I just go with the polyester 707-082 primer?

The bottom line is ...........................no it is not necessary considering your boat is not going to be left in the water for long periods of time and not to mention that just about every boat that i worked on @ Skater over the years past and present has had 714-002 - white ( primer ) sprayed on it above & below the water line due to the fact that there is so much custom fabrication being done to every boat along with repairs . I got to say that i use there primer 714-002 for every boat that i blue print which has been Painted or Gelled with no occurring problems over the years. Just my 2 cents for what it is worth .

Offshore Ginger, thanks for the reply. I was thinking that based on the several posts and responses you've given others on this forum but I just wanted to make sure.
