    Default Flowcoat....

Just after some advice on painting / coating the bottom side of my Bahner.....

Been doing alot of reading, and a white Flowcoat sounds like the ticket.... (Flowcoat similar to Gelcoat, but has the wax built in so it cures)

Not looking at rolling it on or using brushes, so going to add 0-10% maximum of styrene to get it workable enough to use in a gun. From what i have read, i need a 3.5mm nozzle.

Am i on the right track with flowcoat? I read countless website/articles/forums on flowcoat/gelcoat/paint.... everyone seems like they are an expert.... but no pages show anyone having a go and the results they have achieved.

I dont mind hard work, so sanding and buffing to get a nice shiny finish is of no concern. But thats where im hoping spraying it on will make getting an even surface alot easier.

This is for the bottom side only, i just want a plain white gloss finish..... From what i have read the flowcoat provides an excellent durable wearing surface for boats.

See this link for the product i am looking at buying.

White Flow Coat Kit for Fibreglass Finishing - 5 Kg. - eBay (item 140321970228 end time Jun-08-11 2049 PDT)

Details a high gloss, protective finish. Im happy to give it a go and see if it works.

    Anyone got any advice....

    Default It sounds great

But it looks like a swimming pool and I am not sure how it would sand and buff back as I never have sanded it back.I would prep and shoot duratec ez sand primer and sand that back. You can then apply anything from a rattle can to ppg, standox, diamont or similar. you can also gel over that with 50/50 duratec clear and it makes gel coat shoot like paint.Try here : fiberglast.com

If its a flocoat product like DuraTech or Prestec products, you dont need any sort of surfacing agent! its a clear product that you also can just add 50% color of gel to, thin with a small amt of acetone and essentially spray (After adding the correct amt of MEKP).
