Default To repaint or move on....

I have a 72 Tahiti that I really like. It has a 115 mercury that I had to replace the bottom end when I got it last year, so I have another $1200 into the engine. The boat is pretty sound. The exterior has been painted but it needs redone badly. Somewhere alone the line a ski pylon was installed at the back of the boat which I really kinda liked until I decided I might like to put a permanent fuel tank back there. It Has power tilt and trim and that unit is also in the way back there. Ok, the boat is a lot of fun but is it worth repainting? I'f so, I have a bid from a local body shop to do a base/clear job for $1000. I ink I could do it myself if I had some advice. My delima is whether the boat is worth the time and money to pull the pylon(fiberglass work included), redue the upholstery, repaint etc? I know this is a dangerous question and yes I have restored a couple of cars and I understand my time and most of my money isn't worth squat.....but should I find a boat further along? Is an outboard version of this boat even worth the expense or should I sell and find a jet version?Thank you for your thoughts.Dan
