Default Opinion on Wisdom Teeth Removal......

I know everybodys situation is sometimes different about this but just thought I would check here for some feedback. All 4 of my Wisdom teeth are in, just not showing. I am 33 years old now and have been told ever since I was 13 that they needed to come out before they start to bother me. I have no pain from them and they have never bothered me. My current Dentist gave me the spill about the consequences of not taking them out now and it will be harder later and so and so on......I think they just want to do because they are probably going to make a nice penny off of me from my Insurance. I myself do not have to pay a penny out of pocket to get them done right now because of the insurance I have, but I think the only thing that is somewhat holding me back is the pain and discomfort people say you go through after for some people. I think the main reason why I dont want to do it is because I want to pull the Boat out and get ready for Desert Storm......

Has anybody gone through the same situation and what did you decide to do.

At 55 yo I just had my uppers removed because of another issue I'm going thorough. No big deal, no swelling or discomfort, back to normal within 24 hours. Mine were fully exposed and they came right out.

I.V. sedation... The only way to fly... I don't know if it is verced (sp) or what they use but you wont feel a thing until later in the day after the work is long since over... You just float away...

It's true that the longer you wait the harder it gets... Mine were done when I was around 43 and were starting to cause problems for my molars and crowd my lower bite... One was rooted VERY deep in my jaw bone and ended up causing problems, two weeks later a 3/4" long shard of tooth worked it's way out and then it finally healed right up...

I.V. sedation is awesome stuff for a procedure like this...

Follow the POST REMOVAL steps closely to prevent "dry socket" and you will be fine... Just pick the best time for YOUR schedule and take a few days off afterwards...

I had one out last year, local only, no biggie. Hurt big time as the local wore off, took 4 advil and took a nap, was working again 3 hours later. After that minor pain for a day is all. I did not take the twilight as I don't like drugs, didn't have a ride, and didn't want to lose an entire day for a tooth pull.

I still have the other 3, all exposed, causing me no issues. The one that came out had a cavity, only reason. It popped right out. The dental surgeon said it doesn't alway go that smooth and had it broken would have required cutting and digging. So I guess I got lucky. He was pushing the twilight on me but I opted out for the local. And I am 82. Almost.

If it were me I take the if it ain't broke don't fix it attitude on most things. Some dentists are profit driven I believe on this kind of shit. I would not worry about having them out down the road if they cause problems. Of course mine were fully in and exposed, different situation than yours probably.

I have a bone marrow biopsy every two years also. Same deal, local only, against the docs normal recommendation for most people of putting you under. I don't mind the pain, I need to get back to work. It is not as bad as many would have you believe. More like a wasp stinging for a few minutes then its over.

About Ten Years ago I had all four removed. The two lower ones were impacted and Pushing my lower teeth around. I heard when i was younger that unless they hurt they could stay. Well thats not my case. they had been cutting into my jaw bone. They had to add bone after removing the teeth. It took all day. But i was back to normal within a couple of weeks.after looking at the picture of the wisdoms they were at an angle and deep into my lower jaw. Glad I got it done.Should have done it earlier.

It's amazing how the lowers grow into your jawbone, DEEP... I too was shocked when I saw the xrays... Mine were totally horizontal and squishing all of my lower teeth...

Get them done and get it over with. They will want to remove one side at a time. You know do the right side this week and come back next week and do the other. I said no do them all in one sitting. I was fine in a couple of days and mine were impacted and not through the gum.

Do it all at once. You will only look like a chipmonk for a day.

Keep in mind that its no money out of pocket now b/c of your insurance. I'd say get them done now. Who knows what insurance situation you will be in "if" they ever start bothering you and need to be pulled. I got 2 of mine taken out, and like others have said, I was fine the next day.

I needed braces due to teeth grinding when asleep a couple years ago. My wisdom teeth all came in fine but they had to remove them for braces.

Do all 4 at the same time at the oral surgeon and go to sleep. You will wake up right after, basically get carried to the car and the nearest bed and sleep for 5 hours. I went out to eat that evening and was at work the next day. Never took any of the pain pills he gave me. There never was any pain.

The worst part are the damn holes left behind for a couple weeks. Eating rice was a pain in the ass because they get stuck in the sockets.

If they need to come out younger is better then older. It's an easy procedure at age 16, tougher at mid thirties and unless they are causing problems I would not have them done at age 50. Have an oral surgeon do them, not your general dentist. If you want a second opinion have your dentist E-mail me a copy of your panolipse x-ray and I'll review it. Have Fun!
