Will hibernation mode hurt laptops over time???
I'll close mine for hours on end, sometimes overnight.
Thanks for any feedback.

no it simply write the memory contents to disk and shuts down, this allows it to start backup in the last state.
Why would you think it hurts it?
I have an OLD Dell Inspiron and it never hurt it.

DO NOT transport it in sleep mode as the hard drive is not locked and you can loose it, and yes I did a year ago.
Sleep and hibernation are two different states and you can move it. Whenever the system drive is powered down the arm must park. It will not hurt it anymore than if it is just turned off. Laptops in general are hard on hard drives, but they do make high vibration drive or you can also go SSD.
They are the way to go, expecially if you haul it around ALOT like you prolly do...
I support some 500 laptop users. I always tell them to SHUTDOWN when not in use, especially overnight. They tend to just close the lid and the computer never gets to free up memory and reset itself.
Your harddrive will fail eventually. If it's beyond 3 years old, best backup your data regularly...![]()
Yeah, hauling them all over the Country on airplanes and over dirt roads non-stop DEFINITELY puts a hurting on them.
I would lose about one a year on my different laptops. Brand makes little difference when they are getting jostled around.
Besides that, the SS drives are inherently superior in my book just for the fact that there are NO moving parts. It is basically a big ass jump drive, right?
