    took a refresher class at mercury racing school in Georgia for #6 m8 and nxt drives great glass here are some pics

    Why are these drives so expensive? They are pretty simple and the gears are not that big compared to other type gear applications.

    theres not much out there to compete so they charge what they charge the spacers in this box are in .0005 inch increments so you can set rolling torque on the drive and driven shaft and they cost $130 a piece

    Well, .0005 increments, that price doesn't surprise me. Those can't be easy to make. If they're holding tolerances like that throughout.

    A CNC Machine would suprise you how fast it would make a washer like these and hold the specs.


    That is a expensive washer!

    There is no cooling on #6's correct? How do they stay cool when close to nothing but the skeg is in the water at speed with huge power going through them?

    They could use peelable shims like are used in aviation an aerospace. They are basically .0005-.002 sheets bonded together and machined to shape, then peeled to fit when installed.

    not only that they're only filled half way with oil
