Default Preparing for a natural disaster or attack on the U.S.

So I have decided to get a fully prepared list of things that I feel will be necessary in the event of a major disaster, earthquake, civil unrest, attack on the U.S. etc...You know the basic survival kit on steroids. I know there are some good rednecks on the site who can help me plan and give me ideas on what to have in my survival kit for my family. Please leave the beer and peanut jokes till the end. Here is my list so far and the * identifies things that I want to get when money allows.

    1. 360 MRE's
    2. 25 gallons of water
    3. extensive first aid pack
    4. .223 rifle, .308 rifle, shotgun and 3 handguns and replacement parts such as bolt carriers etc. 4,000 plus rounds of ammo
    5. 10K cash and/or 10K gold
    6. batteries, flashlights, rope, radios, duct tape, hand tools, knives, etc...
    7. cold weather gear, tent
    8. spare clothes
    9. * Honda generator
    10. binoculars and night vision
    11. additional back packs to carry gear
    12 *satellite phone
    13. keeping my truck always at least 1/2 full with gas

This is just my preliminary list but would love to get input from serious survivalists and what else is necessary. i would like to have 2 months minimum capabilities.

Crazy? maybe, but stay ready you don't have to get ready...

Exactly. Living right next to LAX, traffic is always brutal. If a big earthquake hit, many roads will probably be destroyed. My dirtbike will get me where ever I need to go
Life is too short for a slow boat

Ive been prepping a while - not crazy just knocking it out in steps. Very similar list.

I figure if the juice and pumps stop Ill need much more water
I have 2 50 gallong plastic drums with stabilized water and a Katadyn base camp water filter to purify anything I come across.
The katadyn will let me drink pool water safely regardless of how green it gets

I keep at least 20 gallons of stabilized gas at the house and keep the boats full so thats another 30 or 100
I regularly excersize my genny and cycle a tank every quarter at a minimum, I put a Xfer switch on the house.
You should see if your honda will even run your fridge - mine will, but I have a honda and a slightly larger 3500 yamaha Ill use as well.

I chose to do the survival weaponry differently and focused on commonality in weapons and ammo with the standard setup being a 357 rifle and pistol combo and 2 of each for parts availability this way I can carry one type of ammo for 4 different weapons. Ill keep the larger calibres in the safe as I dont plan on taking anything down further out than 10 yards anyway

I figure 1-2 weeks is what a major earthquake will take us down by and have based my strategy on that cycle.

You're a thoughtful guy- Ill share my water with you and your family any day!

Although in an ideal scenario you can just leave- the likely hood of me being able to get out of the heart of the city with collapsed freeways etc is minimal.

Ill end up trapped with a million looters looking to rob me blind- hence the guns/n/ammo discussion - just like the LA riots.

If I see anyone within a block of my house with anything remotely resembling a Molotov cocktail- they are going down.

Plan for a long term survival period so with that in mind I'd ditch the AR and get an AK so that way you don't need a spare BCG. Clothes that are too big on you is a good idea also. That way, it looks like you've lost some weight and probably don't have any food worth stealing from. If you stay home throw furniture and clothes on the front lawn so it looks like you're house has been gon thru. I myself am only prepared in the guns & ammo deptartment and I have a pretty mean Rottweiler. Honestly, we don't really have the room for much supplies nor the funds for a bunker. I live near Los Angeles so if it gets nuked, me an my family are probably toast anyways. If we do survive, I will use my firearms and training to take what I need from the weak, anti-gun liberals near me.

We've been doing this for forty+ years. It's not just a natural disaster we'll face. It could easily be economic times, health issues, death in the family, etc. that causes a giant setback. I've used mine to help us through tough economic times. There's a thousand ways to prepare for such an event but the very best way to honestly learn what you will need is to do a test drill of about five days with the entire family. Live on nothing but what you have on hand or in storage. No trips to any store or supplier and try to do it without your own cooking facilities. You will quickly learn that you should keep your fuel tanks in all vehicles more full than empty. You will quickly learn that a couple extra propane tanks filled and a camp stove will be valuable. The value of a generator is huge when you think of the fridge and freezer full of your food. (on a side note, you will quickly learn that a frost free freezer is nearly worthless in comparison to one that needs defrosting from time to time as they keep food for two days longer without power) Water is the primary staple! For flushing, washing, drinking and cooking.

We've used our year's supply often and regularly rotate it in with the supply that we get often from the grocery store. Much of what we count on is impossible to store so alternatives are really important. Milk, cheese, other dairy products can all be purchased in dried form and made into the product but you have to go looking for it because the corner grocery store won't have it. All food storage needs to be rotated as all of it has a determined shelf life and you'll need some direction as to how much of what you need to store. There's also excellent resources to obtain the longer term products that you will surely want. It may be the smartest thing we have done. Here's some places we've used for products:

This is all really great info especially the TP - forgot about that one. The dirtbike or quad is out due to have family members although one of the (lets just safe my better half) may be expendable if circumstances required it but I got to take care of the kids. Hence the 4x4 truck if roads are passible at all. Weapons are selected for specifics to have long range stand off capability and also CQB if needed. antibiotics included in my first aid prep pack. Propane tanks might be agood idea. A few 5 gallons cans of gas with stabil in it for the generator is a good idea also. Multi tool shovel/ax I need. I got a good gas mask for biologicals but need to get the family members set up just hard to find small ones for the kids. No bunker building in the backyard but anything else you guys think is imporant would be cool to hear. Beer and peanuts are low on the list at this point right now. I'd also not rather eat the dog becuase I like him better then my other half too.
