Default ok lol AZ boat reg question

My boat has AZ #s on it. I have the reg. but it's two years expired. Can I as a California resident just reregister it in AZ online or is it best to do it here in california.
Note: I haven't transferred it into my name yet

I wasn't able to do it online b/c the registration wasn't in my name yet (at the time). I had to do everything through the mail and over the phone with Az fish and game.

There pretty quick I transferred mines last year. I'm pretty sure I received it in less than a week. As a matter of fact I paid this years(online) five months late and received it damn quick.. I would call and speak with someone first..

I pay my tags late to control my boating habit!...

Does anyone know what it costs to register a boat in california? I pay $220 a year in AZ and my neighbor just registered his in CA and said he only paid $30? Im not sure if I believe that?

It is $30 for 2 years but the county where it registered send you a luxury tax bill, so if your boat is valued over $9K or so, keep it in AZ.

    Cool Switched to Cali

I always just called the fish and game on the phone and handled it that way. The same person answers all the time, kinda wierd but it's not like dealing with D.M.V. I got tired of paying $160.00 a year for out of state registration in AZ. so i just took the paperwork to AAA and registered it in CA. now i pay $20.00 every 2 years with no luxury tax. Also did the same with the trailer, AZ gave me such a hassle on getting it registered in my name after the plate fell off who knows where.

How did you get out of paying the luxury (property) tax here in california ? I used to have my boat reg. in Arizona. Paid over $200 a year for non resident. Now I pay a property tax bill of about $90 and reg of about $10 yearly.

    thanks,
    Jerry

To the best of my memory, I believe I told them it was worth a lot less than it was. I know people that are waiting till their boats are a couple of years older and the value drops, so they can switch to Cali and avoid the luxury tax. Also if your in L.A. County, I think that is another way they tax you.

At what value does CA stop charging for the luxury tax on boats?

    Cool I Stand Corrected

I stand corrected, It has nothing to do with the value. I may have fudged my numbers to pay a cheaper transfer fee to Cali. I could have sworn I was told either the tax only applied to a boat worth a certain amount or the size of the boat. I called AAA and they said it is decided by the size of the boat. mine is 20.5' and I don't qualify for a luxury tax.

That's weird, b/c when I had my 18 foot Crownline, I still had to pay a property tax.

    Cool ??????

I'm Somewhat confused, I know what is going on with me but if your getting taxed on a smaller boat, then all I can think of is you are possibly in L.A. county and i'm in San Bernardino, and if your not then the confusion continues.
