Default Best trailer axle grease...and alignment Q

Sorry if thats a dumb question. In my case neither axle has brakes. I have been using this blue crap that says marine from the place I bought the axle. Yesterday was the 4th trip to the lake on a new axle this year....got home after a short hourish drive to and back from the pond and both sides got hot enough to start tossing grease. Arent bearings best packed by hand with a moly base lube. The trailer has some under lying alignment issues I need to deal with....gonna take both axles out...buy new springs...and start from scratch....hoping to limp through summer with what I have. One other question.....when squaring axles up....isnt pretty much the only measurement that is relevant...from the center of the tongue...to the axle(s) and obviously that they(axles) are spaced equal distances apart. I cross measured the back half of my trailer with a friends help....looks as though my trailer is 3/8'' outta square to add insult to injury.

    Thumbs up

This is what I use. It is very tough, resists water well, and has a very high melting temperature. Maybe a little overkill, but our bearings get a workout.

Mobile 1 is the only way to go,
when you measure for the axles go from the hitch, even if the frame is not square, you want it pulling straight down the road

Make sure your adjusting your bearing correctly. Here's Dexters recommended procedure. I know I was doing it wrong for 30 years. Its starts on page 8 of this PDF.

Thanks Paul. When I said tongue earlier....thats what I meant.....like where the center of where the ball on the hitch hits the tongue.

Thanks for the help and links fellas.

I don't read where you have had the trailer axles aligned, we have went through this even back on Hot Boat days, not just the distance of the axles from the [ball] tongue point, but that all four spindles aim the wheels straight forward in "alignment", you can wear out tires in a short distance if this is not correct, overheat bearing and all sorts of crap. a good alignment shop knows the procedure. hope this helps ?
