In most cases the guy turning the wrench is not collecting all of the money. In fact most cases just a small portion of it and even if he was to collect it all but was a legit buisness then consider the rent lease or mortage, utility bills, office expense, insurance and a ton of other expenses just to run a buisness and stay in buisness.

what does that have to do with my response? You missed what i was refering to. Overhead to run a buisness is not cheap. Please tell me what is a fair rate that you wish to pay for someones time, use of facility, coverage of there insurance, and the handfull of other expenses just to run a legit business.

Never knock a mans price if you do not like it then go next door there is always someone that will do it for cheaper but then you may just get what you pay for.

Its funny i use to do alot of work for dentists and they were always the ones to say you charge how much for that ps not i am not in the boating industry

Spam, i understand what you're saying. And of course i'll take my stuff somewhere else if it's too pricey. But...you gotta admit...most marine places get away with outrageous prices, usually don't have your shit done when they say, and the work isn't always consistent with the price paid. Every business has overhead, but lets face it, they do gouge on occasion....they know people with boats have some discretionary income. Come on, 1000k for a yearly "service"???which is changing oil and plugs which the plugs probably were still ok. Not a lot of overhead in draining oil and checking fluids.

I agree, a $1000 to change oil and check fluids is way to much. I pay that to have plugs, fuel filter, oil, oil filter, new impeller with housing, and the outdrive fluid changed, pull the drive and check the gimble bearing and alignment, check the cables, check the timing, and grease the trailer bearings. I am sure I missed a couple of things but I don't feel like looking for my bill.
I am not the type of person that does boat service in advance. I have been to most of the shops mentioned and have nothing but great things to say about the ones that I have used.
