Cheap and party ship = Carnival
Nicer and better ships and more $$ = Royal Caribbean

We just did the 4 day Carnival to Cabo. It was o.k. you only have 8 hours to spend at Cabo. I did the 3 day Royal Caribbean to Enchilada few years back and hated it.

I would suggest a room with a balcony/veranda. After having done that once I don't think I would ever want to go again without one...

    Here's our rule of thumb:
The cheaper the cruise the grungier the passengers.
We've been on most all of them but will avoid the cheap Ensenada cruises forever more. Ship was full of welfare-recipient-types who trashed everything the entire time aboard. They came to dinner dressed like they were at the DMV and generally disrespected all others.

The Caribbean cruises were heads and shoulders above-especially the 7+ day ones.

Boatfloating nailed it. Carnival is the younger, party ship. Food is good, but not top notch, very affordable.

Royal Caribbean is more upscale, older crowd, and a bit pricier. Royal Caribbean is our favorite.

But, either is great, I've done both many times. I would recommend the 7-day over any other (3 and 4 days are just too short!!). The Mexican Riviera is a great, affordable cruise because you don't need to pay for airfare. Just watch that sail & sign booze tab!

Carnival sucks unless your in your 20's. Go with the advice and get a suite or a room with a balcolny. ONE BIT of ADVICE, if your going to leave your luggage out for p/up on the last night(they suggest it) DONT DO IT unless you have locks that can't be broken into. You can carry your luggage off and it's alot quicker and you won't get robbed like I did on Carnival(New Orleans to Cozumel). They basically told me oh well. Have fun and go RC or Princess.
