Don't fall for the food that is in the Vet's office, they are paid to have it in there, and don't forget, a veterinary clinic is a business, they are there to make money, not friends. If you want to feed your dog right, feed him raw, if you can't afford that, feed him food that is grain free. Have you ever heard of wolves eating corn, nope. Canines were once wild, and should still eat like wild animals do. I personally feed mine EVO, and his coat, and skin problems that he had when he was younger are all gone.

We feed our golden retriever a mix of Kirkland lamb (which is actually Diamond brand) and Canidae lamb. We had her on Wellness brand whitefish and sweet potato flavor, but we couldn't handle the horrible dog farts that brand of food gave her!Blech! Our two yellow labs started with Eukanuba from the breeder and we've kept them on the Labrador specific adult food. No problems for the past couple of years. There are some really good choices out there, best of luck!

This is another really good food; however, I have always been a little leary of the extremely high protein in there (like 40%). The eagle pack I have my dog on is 23% I believe.

I used to feed the labrador specific food, but then switched to NutroMax but my male developed an allergy to either wheat or beef and would get terrible heat spots. The vet made me switch to potatoe an venison at $30 for a 20 pound bag and I thought it was temporary. After about 3 months I asked how long he was going to have to be on this, he said "Oh, forever." I thought no way! So I went down to petsmart, poured over all the labels and settled on the Iams Large Breed (green bag). Not much waste, if you know what I mean and no hot spots. Lately, I've switched to the lighter version since I just got both dogs fixed and my male already gained about 15 pounds.

BTW, Maxwedge, if you're out and switching, (you probably know this, but in case you don't) make sure you buy a small bag of what you were giving them before so you can switch gradually, otherwise, they'll get the runs or throw it up.

After reading the link you posted, it looks like I should go back to Kirkland Brand instead of the Science Diet I'm feeding my dog. I just want her to be healthy and I thought I was buying her a better food. I did here from my breeder that Kirkland was really good food. I think however she likes the Science Diet better because there are times where she wouldn't eat all her Kirkland food.

Avoderm. As a pup, my dog was determined to be allergic to rice and corn - had bad-smelling ears and used to rub them raw with her paws. Doc said try something without rice and corn. My shorthair is about 13 1/2, now.

After the whole poison dog food tradgedy last year, I started making my dogs chicken, brown rice, carrots and peas for food. The gobbled it down! But that got expensive so I had to resort back to store bought dog food. Iams gives the puppy the runs so ended up with Nature's Recipe, breed specific for Terriers. Terriers have tons of skin problems and sensitive stomachs and this food does not have any wheat, corn or fillers. No more runny poops and they seem to like it alot. I still make them chicken now and then.
