    Default Need a wakeboard...

Just got back into wakeboarding and waterskiing. Last time I rode I used a Hyperlite Belmont 140 I think and had a blast with it. Nice short little skegs, seemed to land nicely and cut hard. That was back in 2001 or thereabouts.

Obviously, technology has come a long way since then, as have bindings and such. I need some advice as to what to get now from people in the know...

I am semi-intermediate. I can do 180 jumps, frontsides, rail grabs etc... but nothing inverted yet. Will be trying to land 360's before the next 12 months are out... came close a lot when I was riding before.

I rode a really "high performance" board this last weekend that did nothing but wear me out getting into the boots, slide out from under me (lots of it was that it was set up for regular foot and I am goofy) and I had a terrible time landing it.

So, I am looking for something flexible enough that lots of people can ride it, stable enough to have fun on, but can still trick it.

Anyone got any advice on what to look for?

If you like the Belmont ya might wanna consider staying with it.
Of all our menagerie of Boards the favorite is still the Belmont.

May I suggest a wakeboard value pack, something that comes with pain relievers and heat packs.

    For good reason...

I waterskied hard last weekend and woke up Monday morning feeling like I had been chewed up by a mountain lion and shit off a cliff.

All the more reason to get back into it. My Dad used to ski every weekend we went out, and doing the math he was about 45 when all that was going down. I turn 36 next week, and don't need any reminders of how old I am getting and how fast.

I have a lot of resources that will allow me to ski a ton more than I can go party boating. Lots of my friends ski in the afternoons here in SD, I have a friend that owns a place on a waterski lake in El Centro that I can squat at anytime I want... boat is in the water already... and it is a great workout.

Kind of what I suspected, that is why I am asking about newer boards... After all these years, and all of these advancements I still favor my old school Kidder Redline comp ski with newer bindings. I have had a couple of the fat skis and just don't like them for hitting the buoys.

Obviously, they don't sell the 2001 Belmont anymore... do they still make the model, or would I need to start looking on Ebay and stuff? There is one on there right now, but they want four bills for the board. Kind of too expensive, don't you think?

I'm a big fan of the Liquid Force Substance, only reason I don't own one is because every time I go to buy one, don't have my size (138) in stock, they're on a 4 month back order or the graphics/colors are horrendous as in 2008.

I have two or three Hyperlite boards collecting dust Wes. You're more than welcome to them. I have bindings for women, kids and extra large adult size.

I quit doing backrolls, Mrs Mb quit footing...getting older sucks.

We still like to board though. The CEO still likes doing her surface 360's.
I really like the wakeskate...even more than the wakeboard.

Along the same lines, the older I get I also find myself comparing ages with my father to activities I remember us doing.

It is pretty funny, as a kid I remember thinking how OLD he was compared to me. Playing baseball, hiking, fishing, camping, all the things we used to do.

I dragged my dad(and mom) to all kinds of hair-brained activites. What a trooper.

I am now about ten years older than he was when I have my first real memories of him. I can't imagine being responsible for children so early in life. Hats off to my parents.

My dad was supposed to stop by the shop today too. Bummer.

Thanks for the memory jiggle Wes!!!

All joking aside... you just have to try a lot of boards and skegs to find what fits your style... I personally like a narrower board, shallow rocker, with 2" fins... just my preference... You have to find your own...

Take a look at the Ronix Ibex 138. I am at the same level you are and bought one earlier this year. It is the most stable board I have ever ridden yet allows for easy inverting, quick turning and huge pop off of the wake. It looks awesome too.
