If I can afford to do Desert Storm this year I am going to and had a question about launching. On some of the busy weekends, they seem to shut down the launch ramps and I think Desert Storm is one of those really busy weekends (I haven't been out their for Desert Storm yet) and imagine that they would shut down the launch ramps. What happens if you pay for the event (to be in the poker run) and they don't let you launch, or are you guaranteed a spot to launch if you are in the poker run.
We were out there last year and did not notice the ramps being shut down. If you are a participant I think you may get a launch pass at Nautical, but I am not sure. We launched on the south side of town at Cattail and had no wait at all dropping in or pulling out.

There is always Cattail as well. I imagine that if Windsor is closed (which it rarely is), LakeRacer LLC could help get a Nautical pass in a pinch...No promises, just a supposition.
Winsor only closes when its full. If your on your way to the water by 8am you shouldn't have anything to worry about. If winsor is full try cattail. I have never seen them closed (The ramp there and workers suck so I would avoid that if you can...lol)
Hopefully the weather is better for everyone this year as last year was a freaking mess. This will be the first time I have missed it since 05sphss
I haven't heard of anyone having a problem with the ramp being shut down - The marina doesn't like to let performance boats launch, and the ramp at the Nautical is restricted to Nautical guests, but Windsor should be open. I launched at Windsor for the poker run last year with no issues other than the usual weekend warriors at the ramp.

you should not have any problems... if you are staying at the nautical, you can launch there. depending on size, lake level and db level of your boat, you can launch at the marina (buy a 3 day pass, 40 bucks, i think)... windsor will be fine too! in order to be at the places you need to be on the lake for the events, it will require you launch early every am... You will indeed have a fantastic weekend!!!
I am just farmiliar enough with Site 6 to know what a pain in the ass it is. I don't like how steep it is getting the boat on the trailer which is why I don't launch there.
This will be the forth year I will attend and I have had no issues with launching at all. Usually drop the boat in around 7 or 8am, the ramps get busy after that but nothing more then normal.

hey james ... i dont think you should have a problem as long as you launch early. i hope to see you out there. as of right now we are arriving on wednesday or thursday. i might even come out for the whole week. not too sure yet though.
Yeah I'm not sure I'm going to beable to swing the cost of the poker run this year. I am getting married April 4th 2009 (we picked that date to leave the poker run open) but with the cost of the wedding, I don't think I'm going to be able to swing it.
go early like 5 or 6 in the morning and avoid any hassle at all. if you need someone to park
your truck for you or whatever, call me or pm me. I'll help.
Just throwing this out there...Havasu Springs is usually pretty quiet and we have never had a problem launching there. Yeah its a small ramp (3 boats at most, but usually 2) but it never gets that busy.
I launch at Windsor but always go pretty early. Last year I didn't have a room and we were going to sleep in the boats in a cove somewhere. That didn't work out so ended up sleeping in the boats in the Channel! Didn't get hassled Friday or Saturday nights.
This year I got a room and the London Bridge with a slip so we're set. Don't have to worry about a beach spot at the Nautical.
I've never heard of anyone having any problems launching due to ramps being closed. The poker run is based out of The Nautical Inn and they have their own ramp.
There's site 6 if your boat is under 30' you should be good there and it's free.
There's Windsor ramp as well.
And as a LAST F*CKING RESORT...Ther's the main marina. I personally don't care if every launch ramp on the lake is closed, I'd sit on the shore and drink before I'd ever launch at the main marina ramp.
