"The deck-style boat, which carried nine other people, was traveling northbound on the Arizona side of the river just south of the Interstate 40 bridge. Brandon's boat, which carried two other people, was heading southbound on the same side of the river when both boats collided head-on."
This quote stated the boat traveling north bound was on the Arizona side of the river... woundn't that be the correct side if following stay to the right rules of boating? This quote says Brandon's boat was the one on the wrong side...![]()
Read the rest...If I remember right the paper has it backwards.
California law does not require a boat to travel on a specific side of the water, unlike Arizona law. Federal navigation rules state that approaching boats should each turn right to avoid a head-on collision.
There ARE places all along that river where you need to be on a certain side, in order not to hit bottom, no matter which way you're going.
Doesn't matter, two boats approaching head on should always turn right. the northbound boat (which carried the girl who was killed the way I understand it) did turn right, and southbound boat (who was on the "wrong side" if you look at it that way) turned left - same direct the other boat turned. The southbound boat had the drunk man at the helm, I believe. If I remember right he said he was going to a beach on that side, which is why he was over there in the first place.
Sad Sad situation.

Not to make light of the situation one bit, very tragic indeed.
If this guys name was substituted for oh lets say Gary Taylor for example
this thread would drop straight to gray water with a lock.everyone has already convicted him
what happened to IUPG?
By the way i feel this guy is guilty and should pay for a long time.
Flame away.

Totatly agree with you Darrell as I also agree that Gary Taylor should not be bashed until he's proven guilty. If he is guilty, which some evidence looks that way, then throw the guy away and don't release him back on the street until he's had help with his problem. But, people will always express there own opinions and thats there right, I don't necessarily have to agree.
I've never once said the other driver was guilty or it was his fault because I strongly believe in th IUPG. But I do feel for the innocent beautiful child's life that was taken. To me thats the most important issue. Whether it was his fault or not, at the end of the day there was still a life lost.
IUPG but seems to be a bouble standard. People are going to be people and in the case of the accident it is pretty difficult to "assume" the operator of the boat wasn't intoxicated with those numbers. Also a little girl lost her life, her mother and father lost a daughter. All do respect Garys stepdaughter is still alive. Again I think both incidents are horrific but I don't realistically compare one with the other IMHO!
BTW I forgot to write alleged after the above post. Sorry! IUPG!!!!!
