I am sure everyone knows that AIG insures the Congressional pensions. The government will NEVER let them go under. Their retirement depends on it.

No doubt thats one of the reasons. Got to be more though. They lost more than $60B, so the gov't hands them another $30B. Like trying to plug a hole with water.
No shit, at this point, what GM needs to stay in business is chicken feed in comparison.

I read that the 60B loss was just the last quarter, not the year. So this next 30B is good for 6 or 7 weeks.
Gotta pay back the guys that helped get Obama elected!!!! Without the banking crisis Obama would have had a harder time during his campaign. He would have had a harder time campaigning against McCain on the topic of national security and that was the focus until September. The poles always showed McCain ahead on the topic of security but McCain always lagged on the topic of the economy. By the way, wasn't it Barney Frank and Chris Dodd that were in charge of the house finance & senate banking committees?
The banking crisis sure came at the most opportune time for Obama.
They, among other things, insure the vast majority of European Banks (CDO's) as well as 1/4 of every insured item in the U.S. from what I understand...

I read somewhere a while back that if we hadn't let Lehman brothers go none of this would be happening. Somehow letting Lehmans go caused a Domino affect that is costing us far more now then it would have if we had stopped them from going down.

I just got off the phone with a person that thinks things will be good and back to "normal" in 3 months. Told here to check into Rehab today.
lol, i hear people everyday say oh by spring/summer we should be getting back to normal, i guess warm weather will be the factor in our economy...there is another big foreclosure going to happen...this is far from being over...i usually keep my comments on this stuff to myself, but i just got to the point that i cant anymore,, wow i feel better, carry on..
