    Default "March HB" You take????????????????

I just got my March issue and was wondering if anybody has bothered to read the first 2 editorials. I know how I felt about it but wonder how the rest of you feel, just curious! NSF

Not So Fast made a good point about this needing to be it's own thread. It is a very specific discussion, and I hijacked another thread with my comment. I will repost what I wrote over here since it was my opinion.

    -----------------------
So I had a chance to pick up the March issue of HB at the show yesterday, and I thought I would take a moment to respond to something in the section written by the new owner Darrin Davidson entitled "Dispelling Rumors, Myths, and Lies" on pg 8.

In this section there was a quiet lengthy discussion about their new website and how it would be nothing like... well from what I could gather this site. They spent a good deal of time explaining that their site would be a boating only site and not turn into some sort of "social networking site." The following opinion is not me attempting to bash HB so much as it is my observation as a web designer and marketing guy who makes a living studying the psychology and behavioral patterns of the internet.

Let me start of by saying that Performance Boats is absolutely a social networking site for boaters. While HB seems to vilify it, the social networking concept is really a fancy way of saying community. Boating above many other types of recreation is all about the community. You go to the lake to talk to your friends, hang out, drive fast and enjoy your boat. We feel that a website should mirror and provide for those activities. Community based sites are mirrors of what happens in the segment they represent. There have been other sites that have tried to do the tech only thing, and simply put they are either not around or are accompanied only by the deafening sound of crickets.

I think turning your back on the boating community and stating that you are only going to be a tech specific site is short sighted and shows a fundamental lack of understanding about the boating world and the online environment. Community and tech talk are not mutually exclusive, but rather go hand in hand.

Just my thoughts on the issue, I would love to hear what everyone else thinks.

March 2008, Front page reads "West vs East"
In my post on RDP I said that I didnt feel like I had been that bad but after reading these 2 editorials I felt like I was being a very bad person. I spent way too much time on HB.com I know, but the tongue lashing that was given out was uncalled for IMO. We pay for this??? And then when the smoke clears a disclaimer tells you that for a small fee you can continue reading the smut filled pages with scantily clad women of the past on the forums!! Just rubbed me the wrong way I guess.
I'm sort of interested what others thought of the editorials?? NSF PS, sorry the reply was on this forum "is hotboat done"

I read both editorials twice. Could not believe the approach the new owners and editors took to the fiasco!!! Feels like they are airing the dirty laundry about how the "acquisition" was made and looking for the last of us readers to take sides. Bottom line is that they have alienated (this has been said before) all those that were loyal to their forum and magazine, have chosen to insult us with poorly written, elementary verbiage, bad excuses and marginal photos. The girl that is now the "editor" is out of her league when it comes to the sentiment and feelings of hardcore boaters and the lifestyle overall; this is evident from the cutesy ranting we have endured in the past few issues! I am far from a chauvinist but that chick is better off in a string-'kini showing off the sweet a$$ and Mosquito bites!!!!

Sad to see the "only boating magazine that matters", turn into the "only boating magazine that used to matter"!

My .02 (actually more like .04)!

I for one did not read the columns. I did flip through the entire magazine and read a few of the articles that interested me, like the deck boat reviews. I will say I felt a bit disappointed from the way the magazine used to be to the way it is now but when my subscription expires I'll probably renew it because there isn't enough boating magazines currently available that cater to custom boats, the river, women in bikinis and the overall lifestyle I like to enjoy. Is it as good as before, no, but whatever, it helps me forget reality for a while when I am moving my bowels...

I took it as a slap in the face. I just got my renewal letter in the mail and for the first time in 5+ years, I'm letting it go. No more HB for me.

    Default Us

As I said at the onset of the implosion at HB, the forum wasn't HB, the forum was US. The ex HB family is becoming the PB family. It takes a lot to surpass the attitudes and differences to band together in a mutual cause, as we have all seen time and again. Sure, we go back to insults and name calling, but when the next family member needs help the true nature of "US" comes right back to the front. This IS a social gathering, the fact that we all love boats and boating is secondary. HB was never social, we were social......If HB wants to take away what they no longer have anyway, so be it. Imagine trying to throw together a group of people and tell them to "be social"....Aint gonna happen.........The tech advice from members is instant, and usually given from experience in the real boating world. The "Ann Landers" type advice is also from experience, and usually right on the mark. We have Boatcop for the legal side of our sport, as well as a host of other LE members for "off the record" advice for a wide variety of issues. I thank the founders of PM.com for allowing the family to move over here and continue the very "social" atmosphere we all enjoy.....MP
