i'm a southwest employee in ontario ca...your right we did start charging really large people for 2 seats a few years back,to make it more comfy for our other pax on the aircraft...now with that said,if for some reason the flight does not go out completely full, the person of size will be refunded the extra cost just for the record... seatbelts will always be free on SWA and DRINKS too , if you happen to be on a flt. and wifey happens to be your flight attendant, just mention pb mag. and your drinkin free you cant miss her she's the hot one

Well this topic is some good reading. I fly quite a bit... all pleasure. I always fly Southwest now. I just had a run of delays and bad flights with other carriers.... besides southwest has some of the nicest attendants and on time flights around. But the subject on hand....
I think that if you spill into the seat next to you you should have to pay for two seats.... some of these nasty lard asses needing seatbelt extentions..... barf....
tho.... Im pretty wide myself.... as much as I wear a 34 waist in pants my shoulders are at least as wide as the seats... so should I have to pay double too??? Its a catch 22 for me. Some days I would pay just for the space and not to have to rub shoulders with some focked up gene pool half-breed that hasnt taken a shower in a few days for the next 4 hours. Or cough on me.... or fock... even talk to me for that matter.

Yes smoking does impact your health, but so do a lot of other things. Genetics being one of the biggest ones. Are we going to start charging higher health ins premiums on:

    Your families health history?

How much red meat you eat vs how much fish you eat?

How much trans fat you eat?

    If you play certain sports?

    How much you drink?

I am not a smoker, but if you single out one group of people then you will open up a big can of worms.

health care, that we are talking about---why should i a single guy no kids, pay the same cost for health care that a guy that is married and has children. these debates can go on forever, but thats my beef with cost..and yes if your a*s cant fit in a seat then you should buy two...

What are you guys worried about? Obama will have us in social medicine very shortly, and we'll die before our procedure is approved. Hell, we will be lucky to get an appointment to see the over worked and foreign schooled doctor!

BINGO. My ass fits just fine and so does the seat belt. However, my shoulders don't. I usually sit with my arms crossed to make room. I disagree with the talking part though. I don't sleep on planes unless drugged so it does make time go a bit faster if you have someone to talk to. Everyone seems too preoccupied to strike up a conversation.

Seems like the responses on health ins. rates are from people with company group plans. Try going private. Do I pay higher rates, more than 3 times a non smoker. And that's just one guestion they ask out of a hundred. And I have a wife that is Bi-polar with PB 1 point over avg. Combo of meds is an automatic No insurance at any price. When you private pay you really find out the cost of health care.

O.k. I’m a non smoker and pay for my own health ins. And yes it is expensive.
But smokers have been singled out for and blamed for a lot of different reasons.
    No-smoking women with breast cancer?
    No-smoking men with colon cancer?
No-smokers men & women that have heart attacks?
No-smokers that end up in critical condition in a hospital from a car accident that was not their fault?
Those that are illegally in this country and pregnant or have a third world disease?
Tax smokers and fund a health care system for children.

Yes smokers are to blame for ever thing when you can find no one to blame.
Just tell that to the next over weight, illegal person you sit with on the airline.

The last 4 increases for cig's where for actually for just those causes. They wanta make bucks, start taxing the obese more. They cost more than smokers do and there's more of them.
