I was at a industry lunch meeting yesterday one of the Companies attending is an Asphalt producer. They have a leased piece of property in Los Angles with an Asphalt plant on it. They have proposed to shut it down(early '70's plant) and move to a piece of property that they own within the same City and build a new state of the art asphalt plant that will produce far less emissions from both the natural gas burner to the bag-house and screens. The local Air Districts wants a (get this) $ 5,000,000. (five million dollar) permitting fee from them. Because these would be "new" emissions regardless of the fact that they would be taking an old plant off line than produces more emissions then the new proposed plant.

When they objected the Air District said well keep your old plant then. Phucking pencil pushing bureaucrats have no idea what is takes to run a business. And they wonder why this State is up-side down.

On a side note; does anyone have any info on how many or what States aren't in bad shape financially like Kalifornia is ?

Just like tires I guess, pay a fee when you buy them and another fee when you get rid of them.

Just yesterday I was reading about one of my favorite little countries, oops, I meant city, the City of Vernon. The city where time stands still, as in 1950.

The biggest pension draw on CalPers - $500,000 for a former city adminstrator who is still under criminal indictment.

    NICE

VERNON, Calif.—State pension documents show that the former city administrator of an industrial Southern California city is collecting about $500,000 a year in benefits as he awaits trial on charges of embezzling public funds. The figures were released this week in response to a public records request regarding Bruce Malkenhorst by the California Foundation for Fiscal Responsibility.
Prosecutors allege that the 74-year-old spent $60,000 in public funds for personal use before retiring as Vernon city administrator five years ago. Malkenhorst's reported salary of more than $600,000 had made him one of the state's highest paid city officials.
California Public Employees' Retirement System spokesman Edd Fong says Malkenhorst and the city had paid enough into the pension system to cover the big payout.
Malkenhorst has an unlisted phone number.

    Thanks for the info

I wonder how much California could reduce the losses in the bugdet by allowing off-shore drilling. They split the money with the Feds.

    Default 6 No's! On 1a-1f

    6 No's

    No on 1a-1f

The State of California Gov't and the State Employee Union Machines are out of control - meanwhile WE ARE TAXED TO OBLIVION!

I still think Arnold should be recalled, along with Adam's and the other arrogant bastards that passed the largest state tax increase in the history of this country.

California needs to go bankrupt - that's the real fix. We need a clean slate/fresh start - it's healthier for the state in the long run.

To all you people that are thinking about moving out of California you should do it now! I did it 9 years ago and it was the best thing that I have ever done. I was born in Sacramento and didn't want to leave but the bureaucrats have just been raping the citizens for so long that I couldn't take it any longer.

Forget about jobs and family and just do it! Bring the family with you and you can find a job anywhere. The state doesn't deserve having good people there. If everyone left what would the bureaucrats do for money then? They might just have to find a real job like the rest of you have. Just my two cents...

Our position has to do with ex spouses and children. I think we'd leave the state if we could...

Not to worry, I hear Arnold is going to legalize pot, so all you have to do it start growing it to export.

it's interesting - like John and Ken said when the budget tightens the 1st thing Arnold wants to cut is firefighters instead of the cubies...what the hell, the firefighters should be the last to be cut.

But Arnold uses Firefighters as political puppets to reach deeper into your pockets.

Honestly, political views aside - Arnold needs to be removed from office and go back to Hollywood where he belongs.
