Went to Deltaco on the way home from working on the new house last night. Debit card was denied. WTF? I have over 10K in that checking account. When I got home there was a message from the bank that there may have been some fraudlent activity on my card so they canceled it. Turns out crooks got my card info from a card reader and bought a bunch of cowboy crap in NorCal.

F'n sheet kicker should have the F'n sheet kicked out of him.

We had a similar thing before christmas last year- at the end of the deal- the Vendors that sold the stuff would not give me an address for the scumbags that ordered the crap sent to them. It was paid with my card, my money, I thought I had a right to know where it went- not so.- That was the worst part!

Did the store get them on camera?

My daughter had her wallet stolen and they ran up over $3K in several hours. Got 'em on video buying junk at a convenience store.

The store also should get some heat/attention if the card wasn't present. Sounds like there may be someone at the store involved????

Keep us informed Thumbs, I always like to see crooks get it shoved back up there thievin' asses.:|err

Must have been the same punk bitches that got me. I got home from work yesterday and had the same call from Wells Fargo on my machine at home. The fraud dept was investigating some charges @ Target in Modesto that were denied. I am along ways from Modesto so it was impossible it was me. Turns out the jackass was trying to charge $200 using my debit #. Had to cancel my card and waiting for a new card.

We had the same thing happen to us about 6 months ago. Had taken about 3k with one withdraw and 2 purchases from 2 different Home Depots. They think that the card reader was placed on a gas pump. They caught the people, and we had to sign stuff saying that we would press charges and testify. Got the money back in 5 days.

Thats sucks. I wish we could kill thieves. I got hit last year with my paypal account. Took a few weeks to clear it all up. Now I have this crazy keychain dealio that gives me a different password each time I use it. I havent bought anything on eBay in awhile so no need to use Paypal.

Not too long ago my son caught red handed three Latinos in a car with a bunch of sticky Credit cards and other paraphernalia in the back seat of their car. Long story short, while interviewing them back at the dept., they all ended up ratting each other out. It got handed off to the detectives all wrapped up for them.

I remember my son saying their comments were that it was so easy in America compared to Mexico City where they had come from.

I've had my credit card cloned twice. It wasn't law enforcement that failed to act but the bank. The bank becomes the victim, not the cardholder, and banks have so much fraud that they categorize the losses as the cost of doing business. Too much for them to chase so unless it involves huge losses; organized crime, they write it off instead of pursuing prosecution.
Same deal with a debit card. The number was sold, used in fraud, but the credit union reimbursed and then didn't want to pursue criminal investigation because of time and cost involved. Sometimes there is more to the picture.....:)bulb

credit card fraud truly sucks... I once lost (the tweeker chick at Kragen) kept
my card after a purchase once. this was when I rarely used my card since I
mainly carried cash.....

I checked my account after about 3 days since I couldn't find my card.....

noticed about 800 bucks worth of charges........ cancelled the card, and
started a fraud investigation...... 5 purchases at mini-mart/gas stations,
and they also went to fresh choice for dinner....

the bank told me it's very common for stolen cards to be used to purchase
cigarettes, and fuel, and these people must also have liked salad.......

what did these thiefs purchase (the cowboy crap) and where-???

pizza delivery......

yea, a few years ago, some scum bag grabbed my credit card #.
Wells Fargo gives me a call, say's......you sure are buying ALOT of glass blowing equipment. Huh ?? (more like WTF !!)
To the tune of $3,500 + in a 7 day period. :|err
Long story short, WF put the card on fraud alert, got a Detective with Jefferson County involved. They asked if I would press charges when they catch the person....well hell ya !! The dumb ass crook ordered pizza with my card......guess who delivered the pizza ??!! :D
The popo, cuffs & all. So long bad guy.
Yup.......end of story.
I got my acount credited in full after a few weeks.

Unfortunately, if it was a card reader, the suspect/s likely reprogrammed a new card or used the information on the internet. A video of the incident and 25c may get you a coke from the machine, unless someone can identify the suspect/s just by looking at the video.

As someone mentioned earlier, usually the victim's account is credited immediately, and the banks do not pursue the suspects , and refuse to cooperate with the police without court orders etc.

As far as the cops not taking fingerprints, there's no excuse for that. You should have said something to them or their superiors at the time. Aside from fingerprints, what else did you expect them to do? If there were any leads...enlighten us with them....

Identity theft runs a muck, and every once in a while LE will catch them. You have to understand that most of these crooks will not be caught (if they're smart enough). It is just the reality of the situation.

I agree that if the circumstance warrants, ie suitable surface etc, then printing is a viable option. My comment is based upon the rather open-ended observation that the officer should have printed everything and without specifics, it seems that criticisms against LE flow freely in this forum, sometimes as opinion without specific detail to support. A thorough investigation should be done each and every time but there's a little bit of dramatic license on tv shows that too many take it as gospel. JMO ;)

"the doctor"...you're in real estate? OH NO!! Pretty outspoken for someone who's profession is full of people who don't follow through, steal, lie, and take people's money. I'd trust any old police officer out on the street any day before i shared some information with a realtor ;)
