Anyone know or are you a stunt driver? Is there any money to be made in it? Are you competing with a lot of drivers? Are you hired on your talent alone or do you get hired because you market yourself? I was just thinking it would be a fun 10 year plan as a job out of college. Any input would be appreciated. Yes I know this is that job that sounds like more of a hobby than a 9-5 but o well

They probably spend more time on worker's comp than actually working.

Just guessing here, I would say proffesional stunt drivers either had or have a career in racing. Most likely they had a career and they were not good enough to make a living racing and found a gig as a stunt driver, maybe even a friend of a friend type of deal. I'm also guessing you would need some type of driving resume or proof of your experience, and I doubt a video your buddy films of you doing donuts will work. I also doubt the position pay much...

I stunt drive everytime I'm at Havasu.

Navigating through the lake Lice on a big weekend Doesn't pay worth a crap though

    Sounds like fun, good luck.
I'd agree with you, but then we would both be wrong

As someone who works with studios all the time I can tell you most stuntmen do a wide variety of work.

A driving only career is likely to be quite limiting as more and more practical shots are being done digitally and there are very few that make a living driving full time.

I just play one on the weekends.

All kidding aside much like attorneys are also qualified to be real estate agents in many states , my background in visual FX for the last 20 years means im also a qualified producer and I/we get called in to consult on visual fx and stunt work frequently and taking the humans out of danger using technology is part of what we do.

Even though we can fool almost everyone almost all the time now there is still lots of practical work but those guys are becoming Swiss army knife type guys. Vs specialists.

    Default stunts

I know the guy who did the motorcycle stunts for the movie magnum force. Its all based on who you know and how many years you have been in the union.

Its give and take i just finished a cisco telepresence session with my counterparts from japan at 11pm tonight.

I have to deliver like a million a week in sales with not enough guys, but few guys get to do what i do so its a work hard play hard life for me.

I like to quote the old man - you get up in the morning and go to work.

You don't get up in the morning and go to "easy". because no one pays you for getting up and going to "easy".

the older i get the smarter the old man was.......
