I'm sure they would pick up people, but your boat? No.

So services are rendered before the bill gets paid? Homeowner offered to pay whatever expenses were charged, so shouldn't the firefighters do the RIGHT THING and try and save the guy's property?

I agree...................I guess the HUMAN in me would try to help people in need, but others place a monetary value on everything. I guess "Good Samaritans" are few & far between these days.

You're wrong. You have a prepaid service. It's called insurance. You're insurance, which is legally required, pays for your tow if involved in an accident. If you are broken down, the tow truck isn't hooking up without a credit card. Police have it towed? They have collateral.

Can someone tell me part of the story?

Did the fire department go out on the call and then just stand there and watch it burn?

    Or

Did they not respond to the call at all ?

Wrong...................tow truck will hook up the car & tow it to your desired location. Before they drop the car, you pay the bill. If you don't pay the bill, then the tow company takes the vehicle back to their yard and charges you storage fees. I worked for a tow company that did police tows, AAA and private party tows.

Not responding at all because they were not covered is one thing. But to bring the men, all the fire fighting equipt. , trucks, seems morally wrong.

In all life threatening situations are we not legally obligated to help?

Hospitals have to help if you have insurance or not.

As a private citizen, If I do not render aid in certain situations, I can be held accountable.

He took a gamble and lost. It's a $75 fee, pretty cheap protection. I'm guessing that this is a volunteer fire department and this is a funding/logistical call, and local or state taxes don't cover or fund some aspect of this. It's a business, and if a business has a fee, I guess if you want their services, you pay...
    one way or another.
This day and age $75 could be the difference between your family not eating that week or your mortgage falling behind.

I think it's pretty shitty they couldn't put the fire out and get $75 out of him somehow. Especially sitting there and watching. I would be pissed!

The neighbor, who paid the $75, was worried about the fire spreading to his property. Fire department responded and stood by to make sure the fire didn't spread to the neighbor's property, but made no attempts to put out the fire at the origin house.

Same difference regarding pay. In my experiences, it's been up front. Maybe because I was driving shit.
